[Kwon’s Music Corner] MeteoroiD – 夏の83三角形 Review
Truth be told, we’re used to being bombarded with wonderful singles and even more brilliant full-length releases by MeteoroiD. While GEMINI was exploring their more melodic, yet upbeat still, side, BULLETBOX was unveiling a more “vulgar” face that was walking hand in hand with darker compositions without setting aside the band’s melodious aesthetic. MeteoroiD have been around for a while and they mature with the passing of time like the good old wine. They keep progressing as musicians and their latest single, “夏の83三角形,” is more proof. Even though it winks at GEMINI, it brings MeteoroiD one step closer to a forthcoming album with its inspired tunes. The more traditional aspects and sing-along passages of “世界は私を嫌ってる” commence the sound journey in a playful tone whereas “めんへら輪舞曲” makes things even more intriguing with its slight yet distinctive electronic injections that pace perfectly well with the song’s more rocking attitude. Needless to say that the guitar solo that graced our ears was quite wonderful, but the real magic of “夏の83三角形” lies in “黄泉の風,” a beautiful ballad that has the potential to cast a spell on you! Genki’s heartfelt singing and eerily ethereal chants, along with the discreet keyboard passages and the caressing melancholy the guitars evoke, have the power to hold you a hostage. MeteoroiD are alive and kicking, gently this time, and I deeply hope that a new full-length release is on the horizon!
