Yong Pal ~ Episode 8 Recap [TriAngle]

“Star-crossed lovers always seem to find one another and fall in love;
The kind of love nobody dreams of.”

∠ ~ Reality’s contours.

The nurse woke up Tae Hyun with a lavender’s scent and soon everyone left the room once Chae Young appeared! He’s apologetic for betraying her, but he had no other choice! She’s well aware of that and she’s touched by Tae Hyun’s successful attempts to save her life! However, in the future he will have to pay her back for forcing all these people to save her life! One way or another, he intends to do so, but not in a lustful tone! Yeo Jin was aware of their interactions and she was boiling in silence! Her first victim was the nurse who wanted to make her condition look real through all the necessary procedures, but Yeo Jin doesn’t want to comply. The only one to give it a proper shot is Tae Hyun!

He tries to get her in the mood to eat, but she doesn’t want anything. Tae Hyun is apologetic for being unable to predict Chief Surgeon Lee’s plan, but the fact that she’s alive is the most important part of the story. She’s not disappointed she’s still inside the hospital and she pretends to be tired, but eventually she erupts. Yeo Jin’s well aware Tae Hyun put his life on the line to save her, but she can’t stop thinking that she won’t be able to return to her old life and it’s a reason to keep hating him. Tae Hyun points out that all that matters now is for her to get better and reclaim everything; step by step. She acknowledges how naive he is and she informs him that power doesn’t mean justice, especially now that she’s a dead person and the power will be reorganized. Now that president Go and Do Joon are in the same team she’s just a powerless pawn on their chessboard even if she comes back to life. Through all the dismay that will occur many people will get hurt and Tae Hyun will be harmed the most. As for her, she will either end up dead or comatose. Even if she thinks president Go was the best option Tae Hyun emphasizes on the fact that both of them are crocodiles ready to step on her and tear her apart. However, Yeo Jin is one of them as well and crocodiles live among crocodiles by nature, but because of him she was pushed out of the water.

Detective Lee arrives at the hospital and he’s searching for Doo Chul, his underling and Yong Pal! The Head Nurse receives the vibes once the gunshot wound and the moneymaker factor come to the surface and Tae Yong is the one to help them in their investigation. He becomes aware of Yong Pal who does house calls for criminals and everything points towards Tae Hyun’s direction, but Tae Yong doesn’t offer any information. The security chief appears and with one phone call to detective Lee’s team leader terminated the investigation for now! The ecstatic detective can’t wait to capture Yong Pal, but he has to wait for the right moment! Tae Hyun was becoming aware of each and every move they made and while going back the security chief invited him to dinner on Do Joon’s behalf. Chief Surgeon Lee is invited too and not attending isn’t an option!

∠ ~ A Madman’s symposium.

Gradually, everyone involved in Yeo Jin’s murder gets visited by guilt and Chief Surgeon Lee was next in line. In one of his nightmares he could hear Yeo Jin’s voice calling him a murderer and informing him that he’s going to die soon! Of course, her ghastly stare was more than present after he pulled the funerary sheets! Things didn’t get better once he arrived at Do Joon’s luxurious household as he witnessed Yeo Jin’s portrait! The secretary escorted Chief Surgeon Lee and Chae Young didn’t miss her chance to accompany Tae Hyun! She informs him that when Do Joon invites someone it’s to bribe or threaten him; or both! Getting bribed would be an option that would actually make Tae Hyun quite happy!

 bscap3496bscap3497bscap3516 bscap3521bscap3520

The dinner is an overproduction and Do Joon praises Chief Surgeon Lee for his “achievements” and he’s glad Tae Hyun is getting better even though it’s thanks to his wife! Chae Young keeps acting in her own renowned way and pretends to not know that Tae Hyun is related to the underworld with his scalpel skills! Do Joon acknowledges Tae Hyun’s adjusting capabilities and he intends to send his sister to the US to get treated. Tae Hyun can only be thankful and he understands that this is the bribery part of the dinner! President Go could have saved his sister anyway, but Do Joon is glad Tae Hyun chose him! It’s Chef Surgeon Lee’s turn and Do Joon intends to make him the new director, especially now that the current one is still wounded, but Chief Surgeon Lee maintains his “humbleness” and he will keep in mind Do Joon’s “kindness” in the future.

bscap3522 bscap3526bscap3525 bscap3524

The more time passes by the more Do Joon keeps drinking and he recalls the past as he finds himself in a torrent of bitterness. He recalls the first time he met Chae Young during a like-minded barbecue party and even though she was quite popular he would never be enough for her as he was nothing more than Yeo Jin’s assistant. He may had been his father’s firstborn son, but to Hanshin Group he was just an overburdening illegitimate son. Even though he acknowledges Yeo Jin suffered quite lot he’s glad everything turned out this way since he was successful in taking out of the picture both Sung Hoon and Yeo Jin. Do Joon points out he doesn’t have blood on his hands and he infuses all of his guilt upon Chief Surgeon Lee who murdered her and Tae Hyun who was maintaining her comatose condition. Soon, Yeo Jin’s funeral will take place at the cathedral where her wedding with Sung Hoon was supposed to take place. Do Joon intends to bury her next to him, it’s the least he could do as her brother! He refers to Sung Hoon’s promise and that things could have turned out differently, but at that point his secretary prevented Do Joon from unveiling more of his thoughts.

bscap3528 bscap3534bscap3535bscap3538bscap3537bscap3536

Tae Hyun and Chae Young are having a conversation and he urges her fill Do Joon’s void with affection, but he’s not the only who lacks affections! She would like Tae Hyun to share some of his love with her but he would never comply! He wants to know about what kind of person Sung Hoon was and Chae Young praises him as he was tall, smart, good-looking and definitely far away from her league! She believes that star-crossed lovers always find one another in order to fall in love, that kind of love nobody dreams of.

She recalls the past back when Yeo Jin woke up after the accident to find out Sung Hoon had passed away. He considered her father responsible for taking away from her the man she loved and she attempted to end her life in order to take away from her father’s life the person he loved the most, his daughter. He was already in the final stages of pancreatic cancer and he created the restricted area in order to maintain his lovely daughter’s image until the day he would pass away. The director and Chief Surgeon Lee were in charge of that “project” and after Yeo Jin’s father passed away she never regained consciousness due to Do Joon.

Tae Hyun realized how much Yeo Jin loved Sung Hoon since she wanted to die in order to be with him. Chae Young noticed that his face turned ready and she’s well aware he had already started falling for Yeo Jin even though he denies it! She’s a wealthy and beautiful princess after all, but Tae Hyun changes the subject and asks her why doesn’t she love Do Joon who’s a wealthy and handsome man! The first impression the 12th floor left upon Tae Hyun was the fact that people there used to exaggerate more than the patients on the other floors.

The next day Nurse Hwang called Do Joon’s secretary demanding her position next to Yeo Jin! Meeting him is not an option and if he doesn’t fulfill her wish things will get complicated! The renowned truck of doom had a different opinion and it was president Go’s plan! The secretary is enraged because president Go dupicated his cellphone, but it turns out it was Do Joon’s order! Even though Nurse Hwang was loyal, president Go points out that once the construction of a pyramid is over all of the workers who knew the pyramid’s secret were being buried! Do Joon points out that sooner or later everyone who knows their pyramid’s secrets will follow Nurse Hwang’s path.

∠ ~ A nightmare’s closure, the birth of a dream.

Tae Hyun anesthetized Yeo Jin and the next morning she woke up inside his car! It’s the same course as the lethal one three years ago and she relives the accident with every passing second. Tae Hyun stopped the car for her to cry her heart out and he eventually took her to the cathedral she was supposed to get married to Hung Soon. He thought it was the best place to bring her at that point since it was the place her memory stopped. Now that she’s free she can regain her strength and reclaim the fierce world she belongs to. Tae Hyun lets her know that Do Joon will help him treat his sister, but Yeo Jin asked him if she’s a burden to him now that he’s about to take care of sister’s treatment. Tae Hyun replies positively and had he kept her at the hospital his life would had been in danger too. He gave her a cellphone to call either president Go or Switzerland and she’s thankful. It’s a number nobody else knows, but the moment she calls anyone everyone will try to track her down.

bscap3565bscap3560bscap3561 bscap3566 bscap3570bscap3569bscap3579bscap3573bscap3576bscap3580

Yeo Jin questions him why he’s doing this and it’s because they belong to different worlds, it’s something he forgot for a while. On top of that, he doesn’t want to be jealous of someone who’s already dead. Once again, Yeo Jin cries her heart out and the moment she becomes aware that Tae Hyun’s still inside his car she manages to call the Yong Pal contact. Since he answered her call he wants him to talk to her. If he won’t come running within 30 seconds she will never see him again and there he is crying out her name!

bscap3585 bscap3583bscap3582 bscap3586 bscap3588bscap3587

Both the priest and the sister noticed the beautiful vibes between them and Yeo Jin’s room is prepared. They will sleep in separate room and right before leaving, Tae Hyun informed the sister to keep the light on! None of them can sleep and Tae Hyun knocks on the wall to receive Yeo Jin’s reply! Inside the cathedral she asks him not to hate a dead person because Sung Hoon died because he loved her. If 3 years could be enough for some people to heal their scars, these 3 years were a nightmare as she was clearly reliving that day over and over again. She asked him if he can wait until her scars are almost healed and Tae Hyun could only nod positively.

 bscap3593 bscap3610bscap3608bscap3611bscap3614bscap3613bscap3629bscap3619bscap3620

He informed her that the police arrived at the Hanshin Hospital searching for him and that Do Joon will hold her funeral pretty soon. They won’t be able to hide the fact that she’s still alive for too long and that’s why he forced her out of the hospital. Every time Yeo Jin asks him a question Tae Hyun refuses to answer directly and tries to change the subject or presenting yet another question! A moment of sincerity on Yeo Jin’s behalf arrives, if she could make only one call, she would call Tae Hyun. Her hand rests within his palm and a majestic kiss follows as the ambiance was quite devout dare i say!

◎ ~ Circular view.

Yong Pal keeps proving with every passing episode that its powerful ratings weren’t fireworks, but they’re here to keep shining. Even if the difference is only 0.1%, Yong Pal surpassed its greatest ratings to date and set another record with 20.5%. Thursdays appear to be its strongest days since that’s when its reaches its greatest peaks; week by week.

Tae Hyun appears to be the person of the week at the hospital. One way or another, everyone keeps talking about him. It’s all about his condition, his connections with Do Joon and his scandalous interactions with Chae Young. Just a few get to relate Tae Hyun to Yong Pal and even fewer notice what’s really going on within his heart with the… lavender!

As time passes by the dragnet around Tae Hyun gets asphyxiating, it may not be apparent for now but he’s on his own in an ever-expanding frontline where he has to secure his sister’s health while trying to maintain his safety in order to preserve his promise towards Yeo Jin. Yeo Jin’s interaction with Cynthia and Tae Hyun’s conversation with Chae Young led to her outburst inside her room.

In one hand it was pure noble idiocy, on the other hand she felt pressured by putting Tae Hyun’s life in danger for her own well-being while his sister’s treatment was floating around. One could also refer to it as some form of jealousy due to his meeting with Chae Young since this isn’t the first time she witnesses the way she approaches him.

Every time Yeo Jin would wake up she would think of taking her own life, embracing the gift of life for the first time in three years must had been frightening in a manner of speaking. There was also the sudden realization that things aren’t going to be as easy as expected since she’s already out of her natural environment while president Go and Do Joon have already forged an allegiance to divide the fields of wealth and power.

She’s well aware of the harm her presence as a living person will bring upon many people, but Tae Hyun will be the one to find himself right in the eye of the storm. The revenge she had in mind lies shattered on the ground and the new scenery which is being forged could lead to her death or yet another comatose nightmare. It wasn’t just an inconsistent rambling, it was embodying most of the concerns lurking inside a blurry yet functional and eventually sane mind that has finally awakened.

The ecstatic detective Lee doesn’t intend to leave the Yong Pal case behind even though he has to surrender for the time being. Tae Yong could read through the lines and he found a few not so interesting things about Tae Hyung’s shady business. The same applies to the Head Nurse and eventually the nurse and it will be interesting to find out how they will interact with him and which will be their decisions during the forthcoming storm.

Yeo Jin’s murder inflicts fear upon Chief Surgeon Lee. She keeps haunting the man whose hands tried to take away her life so shamelessly. Guilt is all over the place and soon his greatest fear that he could end up dead by Do Joon’s hands will become more intense. Yeo Jin’s portrait possessed a different sense of fearful vibes.

People like Do Joon have no friends, it makes perfect sense the fact that others get invited either to get bribed and/or threatened. This very specific dinner possessed both dynamics with Do Joon being the psychotic maestro, Chief Surgeon Lee the frightened peasant, Tae Hyun the observant chameleon and Chae Young the muse of disguise and defensive offense.

The dinner at Do Joon’s household was a broken man’s glorification of nothing. His inferiority complex was the one fueling the flames of ambition all these years. The more he was drinking the weaker he was appearing in front of everyone’s eyes. The fact that he could never earn Chae Young’s love, Hanshin Group’s approval and eventually the treatment he deserved as a member of the family from his father’s side led him to atrocious thoughts and acts eventually.

Yeo Jin wasn’t his first victim, everything began with Sung Hoon and as soon as Yeo Jin was forced in a comatose condition he took the upper hand after his father’s death. I am eager to find out which promise Sung Hoon didn’t keep, but at this very moment Do Joon is devoid of affection from Chae Young’s side and all this negativity can only progress towards more violent and pompous attempts in order to preserve and empower his current status.

Do Joon’s words frighten Chief Surgeon Lee, but Tae Hyun was always spot on in the way he interacted with Do Joon throughout the night as alcohol was gradually occupying a wider part of Do Joon’s veins. The fact that he’s Yong Pal has forged an intriguing personality in the way he interacts with vicious people and he paced with Do Joon’s flow all along the way.

His interaction with Chae Young was insightful, he invested more in Yeo Jin’s past and how everything started, but he also became aware of what type of person Sung Hoon was. Even though he denied it, Chae Young could read through the lines by witnessing his feelings towards Yeo Jin. He’d been silently nurturing them all this time step by step and he’s already passed the thin read line which separates humane caring from love while giving a deeper meaning to his promise.

Yeo Jin’s comatose condition was a megalomaniac father’s ambition to keep his lovely daughter’s image in sight until the day he would pass away unaware of the wolves growing stronger and waiting for his moment of permanent absence. Unable to keep his daughter by his side as a paternal figure he became the architect of her glass prison in order to please his weakening sight and eventually lose the meaning of parental love into a lifeless observation.

Do Joon’s secretary will play an even more important role in the process. The fact that Do Joon himself let president Go duplicate his cellphone was a case of mistrust and a violation of his personal life. Now that the pyramid is complete all of the “workers” will start being buried along with the ravenous secrets they possess. He’s one of them and he knows he’s not irreplaceable in this fathomless pit which keeps devouring people.

Nurse Hwang paid her loyalty and obsession towards Yeo Jin with her life. The picture of both of them being happy alongside one another reflects times when the horizon was still bright and i am curious about their arch relationship because the latest one was sickening and obsessive to the core. There’s an opinion of Nurse Hwang being her mother, but for some reason i keep sticking to the obsessive factor as Yeo Jin became her existential reason from a point and on.

Yeo Jin staying at the hospital after the information overload Tae Hyun received at the dinner was no longer an option. Reliving once again the nightmare in a more palpable way through the same course was a shock tactic through a face to face confrontation with her traumatic past. The closure she was longing for was bound to take place inside the cathedral she never reached that night 3 years ago.

Tae Hyun masterfully elicited Yeo Jin’s feelings towards his face throughout the scene. He was honest to the fullest, he let her know that Do Joon will handle his sister’s treatment whereas at this very moment Yeo Jin is a burden to him given the circumstances. A blissful burden as he had weighted both options deep within and he was well aware that he could never leave her side, especially now that everything’s bound to get tougher.

Being aware of the fact that both come from two completely different worlds and expressing his jealousy towards Sung Hoon’s face even after his death for having cherished something so deep by Yeo Jin’s side was his utmost level of sincerity. He gave her a cellphone and let her make the final decision. She could call everyone, but if he’s the person she wants in her life she could proceed. That’s why he was waiting in his car and he was rewarded for trusting his instinct and feelings while Yeo Jin was realizing that Tae Hyun is the one and only person in her life. 30 seconds defined their mutual longing.

I love couple scenes with a wall in between. They seemingly separate the couple, but in fact that wall brings them closer together as the mutual thoughts keep lurking until the wall’s no longer there. Tae Hyun was “knock knock knocking on heaven’s door” and there was a reply! He could be patient until her scars had been healed, but what Yeo Jin was unaware of was the fact that after reliving her traumatic experience over and over again she was forging a tougher shell which made its appearance the moment she decided to embrace life anew. Tae Hyun will be the one to mend her emotional wounds, he’s Yong Pal after all!

If she had to call one person, then she would only call Tae Hyun as she has entrusted her life within the palm of his hands and the kiss inside the cathedral was shining with devoutness. Not because of the cathedral, it could be any temple with like-minded vibes, but because of the overall ambiance. There were just the two of them inside such a big building and they were the center of their own attention. A raging sea had been soothed while another one with more powerful waves awaits in the corner.

Joo Won and Kim Tae Hee’s chemistry is omnipresent, even when there’s tension between them it feels as if they had been glued together! There’s a certain magnetic pulse every time both of the occupy ours screen. Had they talked complete nonsense there would still be chemistry between them and Tae Hyun proves it every time he tries to change the subject of their conversation!

Yong Pal isn’t flawless, but the reason why i am very forgiving on some aspects is the fact that it feels like a modern fairytale embedding a wide variety of already used characteristics in many classic stories, but in a high-tech and luxurious environment which loses its perilous golden or clinical vibes once the dreamlike aesthetic overruns the drama’s veins.

    Wonderful recap!
Unlike some people I don’t think the romance was forced. This is about two adults whose been through a lot together in a short amount told time. TH’s actions aren’t surprising since he’s this kind of person. YJ asked TH for some time while her scar heals over her dead ex. This means he still cares about him but is willing to mourn and be with TH.
TH has always looked at YJ with fascination and so I can tell he likes her already.
I hope people don’t hate too much because this weeks episode are slower in terms of action and storyline.
I just don’t get people who complain that Joowon doesn’t have enough rest but when his character is in bed resting they complain that there isn’t much TH and wants him to wake up. JW is finally getting his rest!
I’m wishing for more plot and greatness in next weeks episode and hope that people have not given up on Yongpal.
Thanks for a great recap and dessection of each part and character.

      Thanks a lot! 🙂
I didn’t find the romance forced either, it felt like it hit the right timing with the like-minded atmosphere. Ever since she woke up inside his car every scene was preparing us for that. I can’t imagine the episode ending in any other way. Given Tae Hyun’s character, i find his approach on everything happening quite spot on and measured without neglecting his emotional weaknesses and letting them out when he can no longer hold them inside. Nothing can bring back Yeo Jin’s ex, the moment she decided to live again meant that she has to say goodbye, it won’t happen overnight, but the emotional closure was there as her feelings for him will start fading with time while her feelings for Tae Hyun have already been born and they will start to grow.
I agree, he’s so fascinated even when he tries to hide it! XD Even the nurse and the head nurse know it along with the sexy noona Chae Young! 😀
They were a bit slow, but they weren’t tiring episodes at all, they progressed the story and they had their own vibes. They closed the drama’s first part as we’re waiting for Do Joon and president Go to find out she’s still alive. I hope this won’t complicate Tae Hyun’s sister’s treatment :/
Hahahaha, complaining about not having rest but then complaining about not appearing much is kind of contradictory! The moment the actual episode started i wouldn’t find it odd if Joo Won was lying on the bed for 30 minutes for example and he really woke up with the lavender on his nose!
A strong card of the drama now is that we don’t know how it will progress, anything can happen any time as many side-plots are moving and many possible scenarios can take place, looking forward to the next week’s episodes! But i severely miss Stephanie Lee 🙁
You’re welcome and thanks a lot once again for sharing your thoughts, they are very appreciated!

President Go is so wicked! How can Cynthia be so cheerful, like, I’m off to America! See ya! She’s one of the pyramid builders, isn’t she going to get buried? Or is being sent to America like being buried alive? Lol

I have a feeling If the writer killed Cynthia off like Nurse Hwang, he’d have severe backlash and anti-fans. Not all shows can be like the show LOST, killing off beloved characters left and right in a snap.

        • August 28, 2015 at 2:47 pm — Reply

He’s definitely wicked, he’s got the know-how and the powerful lines and he’s the one moving the marionettes for the time being as everything went according to this own plan and Do Joon can’t afford doing anything else but joining sides with him. If they ever do anything to Cynthia even in her absence they will find me in front of them! Nobody touches Stephanie Lee’s characters! XD I guess she was the lucky one of the story getting away with everything she wanted while remaining unharmed, simply because she’s Cynthia and her temperament bites with love! 😀
There would be a revolution had the writer killed Cynthia! I would be in the front line! XD Until president Go appeared i thought it was a random truck of doom, everything’s possible in dramaland! XD

Well everyone felt differently regarding these 2 episodes. I enjoyed ep 7 more than ep 8 and was glad that Joo Won was finally able to get his rest. I was one of the people hoping he would be able to take it a little easier going forward. Still, I did feel like things had slowed down. My problem wasn’t Tae Hyun appearing less. I had no problem with him appearing less, after all I immensely enjoyed ep 7. I think the reason ep 8 felt draggy to me was the focus on dialogue. There was alot of that but I never thought they were unnecessary.

So what I’m saying is that people differ. There are those who say JW should rest while complaining about giving him enough screen time. There are others who are fine with the progression of events this ep. And there are people in between. So not everyone who felt that the pace slowed down had issues with the actor’s screen time. My feeling on his screen time have nothing to do with the pace. Even w/o screentime the pace could have been fine. The drama has things it must improve on but that’s on the part of the writer. I just want the balance and tone to be maintained throughout Yong Pal’s run.

        • August 28, 2015 at 2:38 pm — Reply

Of course, variety of opinions makes things interesting to say the least, otherwise if everyone liked the same things in the exact same way it would be boring! 😀
Yup, he got his rest, he deserved it and he needed it at the same time! I liked both episodes almost equally, maybe the 7th one a bit more as well, the terrace scene at the end was so powerful when Yeo Jin saw the outside world after three years, but i can’t be certain since the 8th one had gathered a few powerful scenes in a row as well. “There was alot of that but I never thought they were unnecessary.” So true, they never felt unnecessary, because both of them were bedridden until they gradually moved out of the hospital, Tae Hyun first at the dinner and then both of them together. But also after that, conversations were needed too.
The only slight “issue” was about opinions wanting JW to rest and at the same time have brave amounts of screen time, it can’t happen! XD The good part of the story was that he did rest and he had had his respectable amounts of screen time while most of the scenes weren’t physically demanding, so there was a balance over there. Yup, it’s all on the writer’s shoulders from now on in order to maintain the interest at high levels. I saw episodes 7 and 8 as story-progressing ones as more information came to the surface + the first circle of the drama reached its end for the second one to begin. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!!! 🙂

Loved the recap. Thanks for the interim yongpal-fix. Can’t wait for Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The kiss was quite a surprise but I think Prince Charming deserves a kiss for rescuing Sleeping Beauty.

Both of them deserved a kiss and i am glad it appeared this way in a fairytale environment!

Awesome and deep review. I truly love the bonding and romantic moments between this OTP. It’s not the same old cliche meet cute, and the other sugary sweet nonsense. I admit, the kiss took me by surprise, but I got over it fast. It works. They are thrown together by circumstance, caught up in the moment. They are adults and this is a modern fairy tale. Yeo Jin is Sleeping Beauty and Tae Hyun saved her from the dragons (for now) and the creepy witch and has woken her up to reality with the sweet kiss. The cathedral setting being almost like a fairytale castle.

And here we go again with food symbolism. More bloody meat and red wine. I wish I could post my screaming chef meme: this beef is so raw it’s eating the salad!

Or my thought on Sung Hoon. I want to know what promise! Was he working with Do Joon to take down Yeo Jin but then fell in love with her?

This drama keeps me so invested!

    • August 28, 2015 at 2:57 pm — Reply

This OTP has something special, they maintain a certain vibe that captivates the audience. Yush, two adults in difficult circumstances finding affection in one another in this modern fairytale environment. There’s our sleeping beauty and there is the, how to refer to him, some sort of villainous hero who treats criminals to pay off his debt and save his sister but he also saves people’s lives with his operating skills, he’s like a white knight in a black armor who fell for the princess and saved her from the dragons! XD He’s a villain with conscience and a hero with weaknesses at the same time! “The cathedral setting being almost like a fairytale castle. ” So true! “this beef is so raw it’s eating the salad! ” Hahahahaha, even though the real emphasis was given on Nurse Hwang eating, the bloody meat-red wine crusade goes on!
I want to know that promise too, what you said feels like the most logical explanation or something like Do Joon wanted him to wait for his father to pass away and then Sung Hoon would take Yeo Jin and Do Joon the Hanshin Group or something XD

      • August 28, 2015 at 6:09 pm — Reply

Tae Hyun is definitely the Dark Knight. An anti-hero! I’m definitely a carnivore. But I’m glad we didn’t have to see them eating the bloody red meat. Everyone was sickened at the table as he’s stumbling around piercing the knife into it. Shudders!

I have a feeling Sung Hoon was in cahoots with Do Joon for a company merger of some sort. I think President Go might’ve killed him too, to get him and his company out of the way.

Speaking of Knights, it’s like a big game of Chess! And Yeo Jin is the White Queen. I really don’t know how to play the game, but did a spot of research. Doesn’t this sound like Tae Hyun the Knight?

“Enemy pawns are very effective at harassing knights because a pawn attacking a knight is not itself attacked by the knight. For this reason, a knight is most effective when placed in a weakness in the opponent’s pawn structure”

Tae Hyun has entered the crocodile’s lair, or is about to. He’s looking for their weaknesses to take them down.

I may be over thinking this, but I feel like this whole power play in the drama is a big game.

Sorry for the late reply, took a small break in order to marathon Road Number One! XD Yup, it was a semi-cannibal feast and Do Joon was definitely enjoying it until all the bitterness came to the surface!
President Go feels like the real shit as he was for years in the company and he knows pretty much everything and more than most he knows how to get it with moving just a few fingers and the others do the rest either aware or unaware of his own intentions. Really curious about Sung Hoon, he either loved her and the only way to be with her was to make a secret deal with Do Joon but he couldn’t wait OR he didn’t love her and wanted to do business with Do Joon behind her back but he fall for her and we all know what happened in that accident we’ve already seen countless times XD
It’s definitely a chessboard and everyone serves his/her own role!

Is it possible that Chae young liked soon hoon?

    • August 28, 2015 at 2:25 pm — Reply

It’s a possibility, she would had done her move had see been in the same or nearby economical league!
But given the storyline, it would be unrequited since they were neither in the same league nor she was Yeo Jin 😀

I just saw it this evening…. Stephanie Lee is gone, yes…, too bad! She is the one with Lee El, seen in My Beautiful Bride BUT before also in Jang Jin’s film “Man on High Heels” (what a movie!!!!!!) that I love!
There is a korean film festival in two weeks, here in Paris, and Jang Jin comes to show “Man on High Heels”… SO GREAT! 🙂

THANK YOU for mentioning Lee El! I love her so badly too!!! Both in My Beautiful Bride and Man on High Heels even though she didn’t appear much she left her own impact on the movie, had reviewed it some time ago! 😀
I guess you will be there at the festival! Please do share your experiences if it’s not too much of a burden when the time comes ^-^

OK OK nop problem… I have already watched “Man on High Heels” almost one hundred time I guess 😀 But watching Cha Seung-won on the big screen… wooooow!
About this SO GREAT DRAMA “My Beautiful Bride”: I really felt for Kim Moo-Yul…. remember what I said about Kim Rae-won? I think he will get more acting maturity pretty soon too. Have you watched this movie ” All Bark No Bite” (2012): everithing is almost here.

:O You’re a real MOHH commando, so many times! :O On the big screen it will much more awesome i guess! 😀
Kim Moo Yul definitely deserves award for his role in MBB, he was SO stellar! Is it a great movie? Just watched at the cover and seeing Moo Yul in that condition points out there’s gonna be lots of beating up! XD

I’m sad that my nurse is gone. 🙁 I really liked her.

I still like the show, I’m just disappointed by the romance because it does seem too fast. I think the two have chemistry and Joo Won can clearly sell his scenes, but I don’t really understand why he fell in love with her. He understands her pain and sympathizes with her, but how did that shift to love? And I think Yeo Jin does think he’s attractive, but her sudden feelings seem to be mixed with her nostalgia of being near Sung Hoon. It seems more like a rebound for her, since she’s not truly over him yet.

hahaha… you made me laugh! 😀
maybe you could ask all the answers to the scriptwriter, Jang Hyuk-rin!
For us in Europa or Latin countries, this kind of drama is completely wishy-washy and tasteless, these kind of programs are made for Asian an Middle East countries.
The analyse of this kind of drama is very interesting and that’s why I like to read Kwon Sang Seung reviews.

Thanks a lot once again for your words Maina! 🙂 If you have the time please check Shuerei’s comment here, it’s pretty insightful on the way the screenwriter works on the plot since he’s a man!

    • August 31, 2015 at 6:17 pm — Reply

I think in the first place it has always been love. We see the shifts like you said as being gradual. But it was probably deeper and faster than what we assumed. The writer being male express more with actions than words.
If you were to look back into the previous episodes, he has always gazed at her and treated her much better.
He insisted on massaging her feet whereas in the case of Chae Young he was very reluctant to do that.
He asked what she would like to eat whereas he brushed aside the attention of others nurse(s).
He requested to be friends with her and he never bothered to do the same with others.
He held her hands several times in the past, hugged her too and I never seen him doing that with others…

Great points! Wholeheartedly agree, the more I think about this. So many fans are upset at how fast they kissed. I get why it’s shocking. But not really if you look at it in the lens of the Sleeping Beauty Beauty Fairy Tale. I know I said it further up in my original comment. But today I reflected more on the original story and realized how Yong Pal is a modern version of the story, but instead of sorcery and fairies, you have science and doctors.

Handsome Prince hears the tale of the Sleeping Beauty, For years and years no one has been able to wake her or even make it past the evil forces that guard her tower. But this prince is determined and brave, and he has the wits and tools needed to take all the monsters head on. Plus the help of the fairies to guide him. He makes it to the tower, without knowing Sleeping Beauty at all, he wakes her with a kiss.

Tae Hyun has saved her from the tower with the help of good doctors/nurses he could trust. He released her from the Glass tower. Right now his 1st kiss has awakened Yeo Jin to reality. One being that she no long has to feel trapped by the past demons or the tragic memory of the fatal car accident. She can awaken to find a new life and new love. Tae Hyun is taking the chance to get to know the real Yeo Jin, I don’t think this relationship is going to be all hearts and flowers. They’re hinging on her promise. He’s willing to wait and he sealed the deal with a kiss. I don’t see what’s so wrong with that?

Bravo to Yong Pal’s writer, for boldly breaking out of the same old meet cute, kiss by episode 12, Kdrama formula! And dumping the love-hate, argue antics that are so childish more than half the time. I hope Yong Pal keeps up its steam and the writer is not coerced in any way, shape or form to bend this terrific story to netizen pressure.

        • September 1, 2015 at 2:23 pm — Reply

Yup, Shuerei was more than insightful with that comment! It was like she performed surgery on the writer’s brain and stole some of his thoughts to present them to us! XD
“Yong Pal is a modern version of the story, but instead of sorcery and fairies, you have science and doctors. ” So true! We don’t always have to wait for 15 episodes to pass for a kiss on the 16th one! The kiss was the first palpable attempt to make her want to heal her wounds and keep the past as a beautiful memory in order to forget the tragedy that turned into a living nightmare inside her glass prison. Had she kept preserving that state of mind it would eat her alive. She can’t keep living in the past, she has to embrace the past for what it was and leave it behind in order to live at the present for the first time and embrace the future with Tae Hyun.
Let’s hope for the best in Yong Pal’s future episodes!!! Sorry once again for the late reply! 🙂

          • September 1, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Don’t worry about the late replies! Thanks though. I’m just having fun rationalizing and coming up with more theories. A lot of viewers felt underwhelmed with episode 8, I was glad for a calm episode. We needed a breather from all that action. The big question is where do they go from here? Is she going to hide out in the church? It would be a real contrast with the themes for her to be hiding out in a Church yet she’s making plans of revenge. 😮

          • September 2, 2015 at 12:52 am

I wasn’t underwhelmed, but you already know it 😀 Yup, it was soothing after all this tension! The story needed it too because tons of hell awaits in the next episodes! I really have no idea what will happen next, but she could stay at the church for just a few days until Do Joon finds out her body isn’t her… body! XD And she’ll have all the time to gather physical strength while she’ll be putting her mind in action! Will i be able to pull two all-nighters in a row tomorrow and the day after tomorrow so that recaps will be here early in the morning? XD I did that last week, i will try again with coffee’s help!

Thank you SO much for this comment, it was truly very insightful! “The writer being male express more with actions than words.” Explains a lot and makes much more sense since a man’s strong point isn’t always his words, but the actions that do the talking, as a man myself i can understand it. Big but meaningful words come out once the actions have forged something strong, not always because individualism always gets in between, but it’s an interesting generic picture.
Even though they apparently don’t know each other that much, they had meaningful conversations and both of them know how each other feels deep within according to their own struggles and the way they blend as episodes pass by.
All of his actions justify a deeper sense of affection and caring that was evolving episode by episode and indeed, he never had friends and the way it seems, he didn’t care that much about it, but there was something that made him have the urge to get closer to Yeo Jin. The head-hug towards Yeo Jin was more than powerful ^-^

The truck of doom took her away from us! She was so obsessed i liked her too, oddly! XD
Shuerei posted a great comment about the screenwriter being a man and presenting things from his own prism of a man talking with his actions and the way he expresses himself rather than with mostly with words!
