Suizokukan Girl Episode 5 Review
Yellowtails grow to pilotfish and then amberjacks.
Ain’t it nice to grow? I mean, well…if you really think about it growing means you’re closer to dying but it is what it is lol. Like the amazing duo once said “I am older than I once was, and younger than I’ll be, that’s not unusual.”
But it’s not only the physical grow that arrives to hit our door whether we want to or not, it’s also the intellectual and emotional one that we need to do for ourselves. And this was an episode of “growing” for most of our characters.
Sawatari Natsuko (guest-star Nakamura Anne) was the newest arrival to Hamakaze Aquarium, as a dolphin trainer and therapist, as well as the gossip-talk for the employees being the ex-girlfriend of Kaji and all that. Except she wasn’t really, lol. (no surprise there, he IS the Shark Man afterall!) In reality, she used to date a precious friend of Kaji’s when they were all in college, but that friend died in a diving accident and Kaji took it upon himself to take care of her, tossing aside his own needs.
Yoshizaki (the real boss of Hamakaze!) got a bit of focus this week, as we found out about her family status and how her divorce affected her son, who healed himself along with Natsuko in dolphin therapy.
“Rather than complaining, I think if I face what is in front of me, I will find something someday.”
So we had a couple of past-ties that needed to be addressed and solved, since being caught in the middle between the past and present, doesn’t allow one to move forward. Shima helped both Natsuko and Yoshizaki in her own way, and she also learned, that she can still find interesting stuff to do, even if she is transferred in a different department that’s not up to her preference. (though it seems she will return to the dolphin team very soon)
There was a huge “?” concerning the Hamakaze director, Utsumi and his real connection to Shima and her family, as there was a very awkward meeting with Shima’s mother, and the fact he also had a drawing of Shima’s when she was still a child.
Last but not least (that line will always apply to romantic stuff!) there was progress concerning the rabu-rabu things around the aquarium as there was confirmation (or to be more precise, there was no denying that upfront so) that Kaji is attracted to Shima and that Shima is attracted to Kaji.
On the “negative” end, Kumiko, girl, what the heck are you doing? How can you be attracted to that asshole ex-bf of Shima’s and blurt that out to Imada?! Oh well, I forgive you since there’s two episodes left to see that Imada >x99 Asshole n.2. You better!
Onwards to episode 6 then!
