Suizokukan Girl Episode 1 First Look

Matsuoka Mayu portrays an (sorta unlucky) office lady, Shima Yuka, who ends up being “demoted” from the HQ company she had been working for 3 years, to an affiliate aquarium. But wait, is it considered bad luck to be working with sea creatures, though? I mean…DOLPHINS! : D

Well, Kaji, (Kiritani Kenta) her senior in the aquarium, isn’t exactly a ball of sunshine so there’s that too- but he is definitely more honorable than her boss, Morishita, in the HQ, who forced her out of the company while acting all goodie-goodie to her and her ex-boyfriend, Yagami, who dumped her..just cause. (both assholes, basically)

Initially, Shima sees the aquarium job as “necessary evil”, since she thinks she will be back to the HQ quickly (after Morishita asshole n.1 assures her that will be the case) but after finding out that the boss (still asshole n.1) she trusted betrayed her and made a fool of her, she resolves in staying there and do the best she can to improve it.

“Listen C-1; if I have to leave here, there’s nowhere left to go. To me, the people who work here, seem to shine. Watching closely for the slightest change, finding ways to make your lives easier, they’re always thinking of you all. Doing their best, so that visitors will love you like they do. Protecting the aquarium from morning to night, for 24 hours, with all their strength, they protect your lives. “

She starts to become aware of how hard everyone (and how difficult the whole task is to maintain the facilities and everything around) is working and with an optimistic attitude, she’s willing to put her best effort; and that’s her characteristic trait, as evidenced from the first episode- she’s a bit all over the place but willing to put her foot down and do everything in her power to upgrade the job environment; and herself, in the process.

Her co-workers are slowly warming up to her, but the difficult feat will be to get Kaji to “acknowledge” her- Kaji is the definition of a hard ass, (which mostly stems from his love towards the aquarium and his distrust to HQ) but if Shima keeps her head up and the foot in the pedal, he won’t have another choice but give her the credit she deserves.

Likeable first episode, looking forward to see Shima get all the dolphins to do the spin in the air!

Onwards to episode 2! [I don’t think I will recap this show, I might review it weekly though; since I’m planning to recap at least two shows in the summer season, maybe I will return to the review-format for 1-2 others, so I won’t have to drop any show halfway- as I sometimes do when time is biting me in the ass when I have taken more recaps than I can handle, eeer]

I'm pretty outgoing from what I've been told; unless, you bad-mouth Ayase. Or Gakky. Or Ueto. Or Tori. Or Masaki. Or Kame. Hmmm, the or-thing is actually endless! You get the gist of it, right? ; p

Thanks for the review! I was wondering about this one since I’ve never seen a drama about an aquarium before…

        Hi Kipzizz,

I hope you see this comment! I was wondering if you could tell me a spoilery detail about this series. Do any of the dolphins get sick or die? I wanna know this going in so I’m good and prepared.

Thank you! Your reviews of Okitegami, Itsuka and others have steered me and my wife to some amazing dramas!

Um, you sure you want to know? Alright, here goes : yes, it does and it’s a sad scene. :/ (but overall, it’s a very positive series, so do not let that back you down from watching it!)

I’m glad to hear that, thank you for your comment 😀
