First experience in Taiwanese movies
School year is over \o/ and now we have a free summer for movies and dramas yay. I wish all of you have a nice summer, even if you work take some time to relax and throw all your burdens to the sea.
Anyway I’m not into Taiwanese movies or dramas that much, I mean except everything that has to do with South Korean and Japan another country I would watch something is Thailand. There is no a particular reason for that it just happened. So I was talking with Soori and she recommended these Taiwanese movies that I decided to watch. So here is my thoughts on them. My first experience with Taiwanese movies.
Is the first movie I watched. It had a good ranking on “my drama list” and it made me think “hmm that’s interesting”. Well it’s definitely a movie worth watching. It has the right amount of comedy and romance and it’s a movie, how can I say it in english, maybe “filling” would be the right word. What I’m trying to say is that when you order food you don’t want a big plate with a small portion of food in it. Well “Our times it’s exactly the opposite.
The other charms of the movie is the story that is nothing really new but it has its twists. The main thing is the high school love and the love not triangle, but square between Teen, Young, Fei Fan and Min Min. Another reason someone could like in this move apart from the romance, is the lovable main heroine Teen and the crazy gang member Young. On top of everything it has a great nostalgic feeling, movies that are set at late 80’s early 90’s have.
p.s I loved the being fan of Andy part. I’ve only heard of this idol, but I guess he like Tony in “Reply 1997”.
I couldn’t really say I loved the ending, I mean I liked it but on the other hand I would want it to be more realistic. For me if the movie had ended, where Teen remembering her first love finds courage to fix her life, would be enough. Meeting Young again is kind of clice and creates questions for a lot of thing like, couldn’t he show up earlier and how did he know that she would show up at the concert anyway their romance during the movie was really cool so I don’t complain. What happened to the other characters though?
“Campus confidential” is about the perfect college student Liang Xiao with the perfect boyfriend Zhang Sheng, who hates nerds and ends up in need of one, Wun Quan Shun. Will she eventually change her mind? “Campus Confidential” is definitely not a masterpiece and it kind of has the feeling of a comedy teen american movie, which is not necessarily a bad thing. What I mean with that, is what I have found in Asian movies and I love is the depth of human feelings. Even a movie which tells the story of fourteen year old’s love, will give you feelings and touch your sentimental world. This movie is not very close to that. Well if you have time to kill and want to have some laughs this one is interesting, plus it has some mystery/thriller feels.
About the thing I mentioned in the end, the thriller part. I was a bit startled with that. I mean Quan Shun and the girl Mei Sue were very creepy in the end. Especially Mei Sue, where did this behaviour come from, I mean even the plastic surgery. Would I really forgive someone who would have donethat many terrible things to get me? I wonder. Well anyway they had the happily ever after, no harm in the end.
“Hear me” is a movie about deaf people and it has to do with the deaflympics. The story of the two deaf sister, the one competing at swimming and the other one that works hard to get money for support is really touching. If you really consider the movie, you realise how people with disability struggle in life, but they still make it and its admiring. Hopefully they are good people in life like the main lead Tian Kuo. I loved his character from head to bottom. Maybe because he reminded me of some of my good male friends and their carefree personality. We need more people like that.
The movie is very realistic and easy-going, it doesn’t make you feel depressed but wonder about some things. It has a good flow and makes you want to see what is going to happen next. It is a down to earth film that gives you a summer vibe.
So Lian Xiao Peng can hear? I mean I kinda felt more deceived than Tian Kuo. I was too tired to replay the movie and see if it actually happens like that to create this misunderstanding. Does really Tian Kuo appears as a deaf person on the whole movie and does really Lian Xiao doesn’t need to talk in all the scenes? Well it could happen. I felt really like the magic of accepting people with difficulties lost a bit its meaning at that part of the movie. It would be better if Lian Xiao Peng was indeed deaf, it would send a stronger message. But since the family and Tian Kuo accepted her before knowing that it is still nice.
If I had to recommend these movies in priority to watch, it would be like Our Times > Hear Me > Campus Confidential.
Are you guys into Taiwanese movies?
