Manipulation, misguiding information, surveillance and an outright trespass of Hye Rim’s privacy to the extent of the experiment transforming itself into something more sickening over the boundaries of scientific research. Soo Hyun doesn’t want to prove that true love doesn’t exist, he needs to prove it and that’s the reason why he forces the experiment to walk upon a pathway that will lead towards the outcome he desires by all means necessary. If there’s such a thing as emotional violation, Soo Hyun has already started committing it!

bscap1551 bscap1520bscap1519 bscap1552

Madame Antoine’s world is a place where all the male leading figures are assholes (Hye Rim’s ex-husband belongs in the same category too) and on top of that, they have surrounded Hye Rim! It may be true that she followed chairman Kim’s lead and she entered the counseling center to find more information about the experiment, but she became a guinea pig in something greater than she would ever imagine. Soo Hyun has already started playing the guitar with her heartstrings while at the same time he made his brother and younger friend participate in the overall process.

bscap1584bscap1567bscap1568 bscap1560

Soo Hyun is like a dictator over Seung Chan and Ji Ho, but the fact that he made them partake in the overall experiment doesn’t make them devoid of responsibility, the final decision was theirs. However, the manly suitor (Seung Chan) and the pretty boy suitor (Ji Ho) may not be that successful in emotionally approaching Hye Rim, but they definitely brighten up her day since she enjoys mellow dramas and the fact that both of them show their interest towards her makes her enjoy these vibes in real life too! I laugh a lot with Lee Joo Hyung, he’s pretty good at looking so emotionless as Soo Hyun the 2nd while trying to (unsuccessfully) embed emotion in everything he says/does in order to (unsuccessfully) approach Hye Rim under Yoo Rim’s advice.

bscap1531bscap1546bscap1549 bscap1530

The undercover filthy rich suitor is no other than Soo Hyun who’s on a seductive mission and throughout many cliche but measured and Hye Rim oriented steps he progresses his own plan that leaves its own gradual impact on Hye Rim who steadily receives emotional tickles! The secret admirer and the bouquets of flowers with the blue countdown roses amid red ones have definitely intrigued Hye Rim’s mind, but it wasn’t bound to last forever since Hye Rim’s insight doesn’t surrender even when she’s slightly daydreaming!

bscap1585 bscap1629bscap1633 bscap1649

Soo Hyun seeks self-confirmation in order for his demons to stop crawling underneath his skin, but without giving himself a chance to fight them back. It’s something he tries to avoid but Hye Rim keeps bringing it to the surface. It was revealed that the maternal figure Soo Hyun probably hates was his stepmother pointing towards the direction that Soo Hyun and Seung Chan may have the same father, but not the same mother.

bscap1661 bscap1662bscap1663 bscap1666

The real but hidden nature of the experiment doesn’t make Soo Hyn a professional, but a precise and with surgical accuracy opportunist using others and definitely not seeing them as human beings. Such cold and emotionless roles suit Sung Joon damn fine and the same applies to his ecstatic and hilarious facial expressions! I can easily imagine Soo Hyun turning into a quirky serial killer exterminating people who cherish that feeling called love after interrogating them for hours! Hye Rim can see behind his curtains and the craving to be loved, something that didn’t happen when he most needed it.

bscap1586 bscap1693bscap1702bscap1703

At the same time, Soo Hyun intends to make her fall for him and then throw her away as if nothing ever happened and using the experiment as an excuse would be the easiest way out concerning the slightest remains of conscience deep within. I am eager to find out how the mindset and hearts of all three male figures will change while interacting with Hye Rim and i am curious to witness if and how she will be able soften his heart and make him see his reflection in the mirror, the one from the past he tries to avoid, the one that made him who he is at the present. Having saved Hye Rim’s contact as “The Subject” on his cellphone was quite degrading and it was yet another piece of the puzzle proving how detached he is from the world of emotions. However, it’s hilarious witnessing how passionate he is in order to succeed!

bscap1745 bscap1737bscap1738bscap1750

Setting nerve-shaking characters aside, i like where this is going to. There’s probably going to be a new patient per 1-2 episodes and this is going to make the drama’s vibes even more intriguing as the collaboration between Soo Hyun’s cold professionalism and Hye Rim’s insightful observations and more humane approach will be progressing. Together they can do wonders as it was proven throughout Lee Ma Ri’s side-story that was laying emphasis on the impact of mental abuse on one’s self.

bscap1767 bscap1820bscap1819 bscap1769

Soo Hyun may had lost Ma Ri as a patient due to his attitude, but he didn’t give up on her as he was being the more professional and encouraging voice of Hye Rim while at the same time he was trying to lower his professionalism without lacking in meaning in order to make everything appear as Hye Rim’s own thoughts. There are times he’s pretty good as a professional that lets a part of himself breathe through a more humane approach, but it’s always in an indirect way since his direct interactions always end up in some sort of confrontation.

bscap1556 bscap1852bscap1851 bscap1861

However, i have to agree with Soo Hyun concerning Hye Rim’s approach that may have the opposite outcome sometimes. Creating illusions instead of presenting reality the way it is may be more harmful at the end of the day. Together they can forge a golden balance between sentiment and reality while learning from one another, but the pathway they have to walk upon in order to reach that point is a long one.

bscap1892 bscap1836bscap1921 bscap1646

One a side note, i kind of enjoy the kinky professor Mi Ran (Jang Mi Hee) and Seung Chan’s quirky interactions, but the drama has already started pointing towards the direction that she may be suffering from a form of cancer she’s afraid to face head-on. I love it every single time Han Ye Seul tries to speak French while using Marie Antoinette to forge a world of ghosts for her own benefit!

bscap1927bscap1612bscap1613 bscap1928

During the next episode we’re bound to witness Soo Hyun’s restaurant plan collapsing before his very eyes, but a new patient will also make her appearance! Even though Madame Antoine’s episodes are lengthier than your average Korean drama episodes they flow quite pleasantly without tiring. Before i even noticed it the 2nd episode was already reaching the end and something like that can only be positive!

The moment the drama itself makes you proud of your previous review.

Normally when someone gets a bouquet of beautiful roses, they put them in water :p I thought it was bizarre she just left them out to die. But it did make for a very dramatic effect for them to be all lined up on the counter like that. For someone who is completely unromantic, it’s strange that he has perfectly calculated what will get her to fall for him.

I think it was a part of her bohemian part, like some people let the bouquets to wither! XD But yups, the dramatic effect worked pretty well! Yup, it’s the psychologist effect using all the information he gathers to his own benefit without getting emotionally attached, i really want to punch him!

Me too, but because he has such a hard shell it leaves me to believe he’s very soft and vulnerable (and will fall for her in a very hard way). We’ve already seen cracks in his shell by his reaction to his past memory… So although he seems like a serial killer, he is no Dexter.

Yup, he will melt like snow once she passes through that tough shell and he will definitely fall hard for her, but once she notices what was going on with the experiment it’s gonna get explosive! Not Dexter for sure, something more hilarious although Dexter had his own hilarious moments lol

Ya, he’s like the Mr. Bean of Dexter

            LOL! SO true! XD

Thanks for your recap. Despite the low ratings, I also find Madame Antoine entertaining.

You’re very welcome! 🙂 Yup, despite the low ratings it is a pleasant ride so far! Even though the male characters are nerve-shaking they actually make you wanna see how they will progress by Hye Rim’s side, especially Soo Hyun!

I discovered kdramas in October 2014. I usually pick what I watch by discovering a new bias (hot kdrama actor) and then trying to catch up on his past dramas and films. And sometimes a strong recommendation of a drama by bloggers or if a drama is constantly gushed about by fellow commenters comparing it to whichever drama recap we’re discussing. I tried, but never seem to care too much for the actresses. I don’t dislije them, but they just never peak my interest enough to seek out their work. The exception is Han Ye Seul. Her facial expressions crack me up. Her voice doesn’t irritate me. (Maybe I like her face because it seems natural to me. If the nose doesn’t move or crinkle when you laugh or flare when you’re angry (slight millimeters, not large movements), it’s just a bland face to me, no matter how beautiful it might be in the abstract. )

Anyway, Han Ye Seul is always interesting to me. She’s strong and funny.
