She was pretty episodes 5 – 6 ~ review

Hello Dramajjangers

The fifth and sixth episodes of “She was pretty”, could have an alternative title as, “The episodes I am officially discussed with Min Ha Ri”. The moment Hye Jin and Sung Joon are getting closer she comes between them with her lies and ruins everything. But let’s take one thing at a time.

The fifth episode doesn’t start in the best way for Kim Hye Jin, that has to hide in the closet so she can avoid Sung Joon. He finds her, but the thing is, she has heard the conversation Sung Joon had on the phone about “The Most” closing down. Sung Joon warns her that she should not speak about it. Do I feel, like in the next episodes somehow this will be known and that will lead to Sung Joon misunderstanding Hye Jin and loosing his trust in her? I hope not.

Hye Jin eats with Shin Hyuk and tells him about her secret of her first love. It’s funny how Shin Hyuk knows everybody’s secrets, but nobody knows his. What I like about Shin Hyuk is that unlike frustrating Min Ha RI, he is not annoying at all. He has the part of the second lead who is in love with the main female lead, but he is really discreet. Please writers, don’t change his cool character in the future episodes.

While they are together Sung Joon sees them and you can tell, jealously little by little is getting him. Before that in the office he was moved by Hye Jin, when she left food for him at his desk. In return he showed some care for her cut finger. The chaebol way of course. A chaebol never shows his feelings, he first says all the rude words in the world in your face, but in the end he takes care of your wound.

While Sung Joon is on his way to meet Min Ha Ri, who has finally decided to stop the cosplay by introducing Shin Hyuk as her future husband, he runs into a car accident. The rain and the accident reminds him of his mother and he gets a panick attack. Hye Jin is there to help him, at that moment he remembers the old times, Hye Jin had helped him with his panic attack, when they were young.

Min Ha Ri when she finds out, adriver is getting Sung Joon home, from disappearing shr decides to appear and cook for him. I can’t blame her on that because, Sung Joon is in a bad position. When he asks her what she wanted to tell him, she once again delays her answer.

Sung Joon is moved by Hye Jin and takes care of her cold. He even rides the bus, so she can sleep on his shoulder, while his car being taken away. How can not this be love? I like how his feeling are developing for the current Kim Hye Jin. The writers didn’t wait for the revelation. The things the young Sung Joon loved in Hye Jin, he can see them in her even though her appearance has changed, Hye Jin’s pure soul is still the same.

Being confused, Sung Joon calls his therapist. He gives him advice how to take care of his stress. When Sung Joon asks him, about his romantic feelings that keep getting mixed between, the girl he knew in the past and the girl that has come now in his life. The doctor says it’s the Zeigarnik Effect, he can’t let go of the past, because the things were not finished then, (look what someone learns from a drama, I surely have this effect too). He suggests, he should let go of the past and move on. Bless that therapist.

While Sung Joon is ready to follow his feeling for Kim Hye Jin, the one who is on his mind like the new person in his life. Min Ha RI after a conversation of Shin Hyuk, where of course she tells the thing from her side, she gets provoked by him to chase her love for Sung Joon. And there comes the part where I wanted to get in the screen and bit he, I’m against violence, but how can you still the part of the puzzle from your best friend?????? She steals the puzzle piece and shows it Sung Joon as her own. What a liar, at least other evil girls from kdramas know they are bitches. Not only she has the nerve to show it, she then pretends to be the victim feeling guilty and sleeping in the same bed with Hye Jin. Poor Hye Jin worries about her, when she asks her what is going on, she tells her she would tell her later. When is that “later” exactly she has being saying for 6 episodes now? Unless things make a huge turn, she has officially become one of my worst kdramas characters. Sung Joon gets the puzzle and being fooled he decides to throw away the onion that symbolizes his feeling for Kim Hye Jin.

What is Min Ha Ri’s plan, to keep pretending to be Kim Hye Jin? Even if she loves Sung Joon, she keeps deceiving him, does she think when he finds out he will forgive her? Does she expect from Kim Hye Jin to forgive her too? Does it really worth to lose such a great friend for someone? I’m really curious how the writers, are going to make the revelation.

For our shake in the next episode Hye Jin and Sung Joon are stuck with each other for the business travel. Can’t wait, what about you?

It’s shocking how low Ha Ri has sunk this week! At first it was all cute, but once she stole that puzzle piece and gave it to Sung Joon as hers, I knew she was finally over to the dark side 😀

I hope she just goes on being bad and give us something to hate on lol. Since everyone else is so adorable (especially Shin Hyuk)

That puzzle move was the end for me, you can’t go back from there, I wonder how Hye Jin will react when she finds out about all of these.

I wasn’t convinced by HR since beginning of the series. There were lots of netizens raving about the “womance” but I wasn’t convinced by a serial playgirl.

Granted that the men she dated were lousy but she was also rather “easy”. Sorry I don’t click with such girls. Used to have a very close gal pal and she was a serial dater. Turned out she was a back stabber. Ok sorry I better pray and forgive my enemies!

you are right, the way you behave in you love life, not always, shows what kind of person you are. If you use people in your love life, why not use your best friend?

Awww am I the only one thinking that Ha Ri’s move as shady as it was made her the most humane character? I mean humane as in no one is perfect and we all make mistakes from time to time and hurt others and fool ourselves into believing “it’s not so bad”… Of course, the writer shouldn’t give Ha Ri more occasions to voluntarily keep Hye Jin and Sung Joon in the dark. I think the writing so far was nuanced enough for not straight hating her because she IS a good person and had always been a good friend to Hye Jin.

-__- oops i click on “post comment” before I was done.

So to conclude, I still have hope for Ha Ri. I’d be very disappointed if the writer decided to turn her into the villain the viewer and all characters are supposed and she gets no chance of getting her friendship with Hye Jin back. I don’t think there would be the same as before. Because of character’s development, U hope they will learn a lesson about what their friendship means to each other and it will make them both stronger. Sisterhood is so so rare in dramaland, don’t let such cute friendship go to waste. Please, drama God, don’t let it go to waste.

        * the villain the viewer and all characters are supposed to hate*

        * ‘Because of character’s development, U hope they will learn”, I meant “I hope” not you hope

(gosh i can’t write a proper comment today. So much fail OTL)

Min Ha Ri is a villain but not in the straight way. I could understand her feelings in the beginning, but now she does things on purpose. I can’t imagine a person, stealing a piece, that is precious to her best friend and presenting it as her own. It shows she puts her love for Sung Joon above her friend. It’s even more frustrating because she pretends to be the victim when, Sung Joon and Kim Hye Jin are the real ones.

🙁 but it’s so cruel to turn Ha Ri into the convenient villain. Can’t a girl has a ride-or-die best friend once in a while? * sigh * Ah dramaworld is such a jungle full of feels

          • October 7, 2015 at 10:43 am

Maybe there is a purporse, that writers turned Ha Ri from the innocent liar to the huge organised liar.

I can understand that HR would fall for such a good guy. But if I truly liked a guy I would be clear with him coz sooner of later the guy is gonna meet my folks and all sort of complications would occur….
And isn’t SJ supposed to be around for a while only? What’s the use of “romancing” for two months?
Yes it’s the writer’s fault. Perhaps she can redeem herself later. But as for now, she is not a good friend at all. If I were HJ I would forgive her but I won’t be good pals with her again coz I won’t know when HR is gonna be “vulnerable” or “depressed” and turn into a loose cannon again….
We must forgive and love our enemies but the Bible never say we have to be good pals with our enemies. We need to choose our friends well….

A friend like her could never be trusted again.

@1sunnylady I didn’t really consider Ha Ri and Hye Jin’s friendship as all that. Definitely not a healthy one. Or cute for that matter. You know that beautiful girl who surrounds herself with less attractive friends to make herself look good? That’s Ha Ri. Hye Jin is like her crutch, to make her feel better about herself and her inner demons. I don’t hate Ha Ri, but I was never convinced by her character from day one.

    • October 12, 2015 at 6:40 pm — Reply

That’s true. Some girls are close pals but they are not truly genuine. HR was nice to HJ but she hoards HJ’s belongings… Getting love from HJ’s family and SJ.
I can understand the girl has lack of love but it doesn’t mean she has to steal love from her best pal. Downright low!

I know, she pretends to be cool with her, but deep inside she is jealous.

I love this show! I do not know why i keep loving it more and more? It might be because this show tells us the reality (about one thing!) about society favoring more to outer appearance, even though you were good to all and loved people for their real self you can not expect people to return the same behaviour to you as well! And yes many girls have pretty best friends and they love them and they are not jealous but the truth is they are like supporting actress like in real life! And I always feel that way! But this drama help me hope for better.

Damn Girl! Ha-Ri waeo??? wae???? why did you do this? if you have friends like this then you do not need enemies (this show doesn’t have one–like openly enemy! you know! -_- )

Thank you so so much for being great review writer and i noticed you reply also! You never give wrong recommendations love your posts!
Fighting! Keep us updated as usual! 🙂 😀

I love your view on that matter, in this drama there are no enemies, but sometimes the ones close to you might be more dangerous. Thank you so much for your good words. Dramajjang was made for that reason, so that we can share our thoughts with you guys^^

As evil as Ha Ri’s act is, I think it’s in line with her character. She didn’t grow up with love, and doesn’t know how to give it. She doesn’t understand how precious her friendship is and takes all for granted. Here is the real test to show who she really is. The thing is as big as the lie is, it’s pretty stupid because, to put simply, it isn’t something one can hide. Besides Sung Joon is also guilty for letting this ridiculousness go on. He’s just shallow. The act of throwing the onion away is just proof of him NOT moving on from his childhood, and clinging on an illusion. I don’t think the importance is who “Kim Hye Jin” is. I think he’ll find out the truth after he falls for intern Kim Hye Jin. Or not, I rather she ends with Shin Hyuk.

My words exactly, it is a stupid lie from every prespective. I don’t think Sung Joon is shallow. he is not staying with Min Ha Ri for her looks. Maybe he stays with her, because he thinks of her, as the Hye Jin he ows his good memories of childhood to.

I don’t think he’s shallow because he’s staying with Ha Ri, I agree he’s with Ha Ri because he feels that he owes her. I think he’s shallow because of the way he treats intern Hye Jin. It’s not just him though, but all of society it seems. It just feels worst that he does it because he went through the same as a kid, being ridiculed and bullied for his looks, yet he does the same to her.

You are right, maybe it shows how people change. He has kept a bit of his nice personality, but he is being cruel.

No matter how one is deprived of love – we don’t steal other people’s stuff. All these evil justifications caused miserable women like ha ri to steal “good” married men.
Yes the men are also at fault but who can resist pretty gals like ha Ri. Both sides are wrong but girls like ha ri are to be blamed more.

      • October 12, 2015 at 7:56 pm — Reply

How can you enjoy a love you have stolen? I don’t know how Ha Ri can go on with the lies.

I don’t think it’s justified, just that it seemed in line with her character.

And no I disagree, when a woman takes a man from another woman, both are to blame. In this case it’s different since Sung Joon was originally a victim of their lie, but generally I think the one who is supposed to commit to the relationship cheating is the one most to blame. Or the one betraying the trust and promise already made.

Ha Ri is in the wrong here. Hye Jin lied too and still does, but it can’t be compared to Min Ha Ri’s lies.
