We broke up ~ review
Like No Woori says in the drama “We broke up”, isn’t web dramas popular lately? Yes they are and there is nothing wrong with that. Web dramas have many advantages, they are short, they usually tell a cute story and they are the perfect thing to watch and release stress. That describes perfectly “We broke up”. Plus it has cameos from famous actors and upcoming ones from YGkplus models.
The drama is based on the webtoon with the same title, I haven’t read. It’s a story about the couple, No Woo Ri and Ji Won Yeong. After years of dating life gets in their way and they break up. The story goes from there.
One thing I liked about this drama is that it is pretty realistic, It describes an everyday situation without too many cliches (as cliche everyday life can be). It shows people and their hardships of work and career, that get in the way of a couple, that love hasn’t ended between them but it’s definitely scratched from outside. Besides Woori and Won Yeong break up, but they still have to live in the same boarding house, because of the contract. Moving on is not easy if you have your ex girlfriend or boyfriend in your face whatever you do.
Their life goes on and other people get involved in it, as producer Yoo Ni Na and co worker Seo Hyeon Woo. But start something new, can’t be easy, if you have remaining feelings from your last relationship, that is always present to remind them to you.
Here is the part of the drama that I didn’t like much. Many episodes concentrated more on the main leads relationships, with the second leads, to the point their love stories had more screen time than the main couple’s. I would have loved to watch more of Woo Ri and Won Yeong, since a web drama is short and you have to take advantage of every minute.
The ending is not what you expect, leaving questions. Many comments online were wondering, is the ending in Woo Ri’s fantasy, is it how they could have met, is it the present? It’s an open ending that want’s to show the circle of love, people meet, they love, they break up,they get hurt, they may fall in love again or meet new people and repeat the process of love. I prefer an open ending than a cliche one, happy endings should be only where their needed.
Starting from the seconds leads acting Kang Seung Hyun and Jang Ki Yog were pretty descent, I haven’t watched anything else with them, I would like to watch Jang Ki Yong’s handsome face in a drama in the future. Sandara has a persona that follows her in her real life too. I don’t mean that in a bad way, I love Sndara’s energy and cuteness, but this time it got in the way of her performance. It seemed like she didn’t want to ruin her image and keep the likable character, she needs to improve in that area. The chemistry with Seungyoon was not great either and I don’t blame the age cause Sandara looks like 18 years old. I am a fan of Winner and I ave watched everything with them in it. I knew already Seungyoon was good, but he really has step uped his game. He is doing great and he fitted perfectly the young hot blooded rock star. I’m really looking forward to his acting in something more than a web drama.
