Yong Pal ~ Episode 4 Recap [TriAngle]

“You walked into this inner circle of a secret on your own.”

∠ ~ Inside the womb of all atrocities .

As days pass by the 12th floor gets more frightening than Tae Hyun would ever expect it to be. Any time could be a challenge for his humane side. The moment he passed the gates of the restricted area and the camera recorded everything it was both the final process of his interview and his consent at the same time. It’s a condition that cannot be reversed and he’s obliged to preserve his silence to everything he sees or hears for his whole life. Everything that happens on the 12th floor, especially inside the restricted area, stays there.

Tae Hyun’s life changes to a wider extent day by day and he walked in the inner circle of high society’s most terrifying secret on his own and in fact it’s a whole life sentence behind luxurious bars and thick walls. He will be under surveillance from now on and he should think twice before doing anything that would go against unwritten rules and regulations otherwise his own life, but his sister’s as well, could be in danger. He’s well aware that Yeo Jin’s persistent vegetative state was a forced condition as she’s the rightful owner to Hanshin Group’s throne from her mother’s bloodline.

If there could be a ray of light in the thick atmosphere of the 12th floor it could be the information that Tae Hyun’s sister’s position for a transplant has climbed up the ladder thanks to the director. The more favored Tae Hyun gets the more dangerous it feels and at this point he could only pledge his full allegiance to everything the 12th floor preserves. He’s inside a lair of wolves and he will have to toughen up in order to survive. If all this wasn’t enough, Chae Young tries to befriend him in order to find access to Yeo Jin’s restricted area. She drank with him and transferred him to a hotel room making sure the CCTV cameras will do the talking even though nothing happened inside the room.

Problems keep popping up and since the 12th floor accepts anonymous patients from time to time Doo Chul appeared since he wanted Tae Hyun to take care of his wound to a wider extent. Tae Hyun feels cornered one way or another. In one hand there’s Chief Surgeon Lee and the Hanshin Group environment he suddenly found himself in. On the other hand lies his Yong Pal identity that cannot get revealed since it would mean the end of his sister’s life. If Doo Chul gets caught Tae Hyun would follow the same unwelcome path and he lets Man Shik know that illegal house calls are over, but he intends to pay for the remaining debt. Last but not least, his father made his appearance once again in their lives and his violent past is something Tae Hyun cannot ignore, he would never want him by So Hyun’s side.

∠ ~ Faith in humanity restored.

In fact, Tae Hyun cares for Hae In, the girl Se Yoon abused and nearly killed. He recognizes she’s suffering from post traumatic stress and he was eager to call the psychiatric department to support her, but this would mean the whole truth would be exposed and it’s something Chief Surgeon Lee can’t approve. In the meantime, Se Yoon relaxes while she’s breaking apart. They had to leave a scar on his body in order for his story to feel real during the investigation. The police even arrested someone else in his place and the whole incident was wrapped up nicely!

Hae In’s mental state deteriorated and it felt as if everyone was making fun of her condition. She found herself in the hospital’s facilities and an emergency situation occurred. Nobody can evacuate the building until Chae Young and Yeo Jin have left. They transfer Yeo Jin at the parking lot, but a phone call from his sister makes Tae Hyun thoughtful. He postpones Yeo Jin’s departure until he finds out what’s really going on. Everyone inside the hospital, including his sister having dialysis, is in danger. Seeing all these children, parents and patients inside the hospital and thinking that all this life could perish in a blink of an eye if something went wrong awakened Tae Hyun’s humane side.

The 12th floor personnel and clients have evacuated the building, but Tae Hyun heads towards the hospital facilities. Radiation danger is at hand and he talks to Hae In from the speaker in order to make her change her lethal decision. He reassures her that he will let everyone know of the whole truth concerning what happened to her, but nothing seems to work, she wants everyone dead. Tae Hyun has to be sincere towards her, but also to himself, and he lets her know that the explosion she expects will never happen. Everyone, including her, will be exposed to radiation and they will experience a slow and painful death. He lets her know that those with wealth and power have already left and the innocent ones will pay the price of her actions.

Tae Hyun talks to her about his sister’s condition, his ongoing struggle to help her and the difficult past of his family concerning his abusive father beating up their mother who was protecting her children. He also refers to his mother’s death in front of his very eyes as he was unable to help her while his one and only dream was to become a successful doctor so that his mother and sister would have a comfortable life. Everything seemed to be working just fine, but a further emergency case occurred and the whole place was filled with helium gas. Tae Hyun didn’t only expose himself to danger to save Hae In, but he also returned back to press the buttons that would make the hospital a safe place.

Tae Hyun was successful, but he eventually collapsed and while still unconscious he could only dream of his mother whom he misses her severely. Once he returned to reality he was glad to find out Hae In would be fine and he rushed to see his beloved sister. Everyone’s back and the 12th floor is full again! The greatest present Se Yoon could ever ask for was a punch straight from Tae Hyun’s righteous fist! In the end, it could help the investigation since he will look more harmed!

∠ ~ I hear your voice.

Tae Hyun wondered whether Yeo Jin can hear him or not as he understands it would had been a torture if she’s conscious in this state. Inside her glass room Yeo Jin is aware of everything going on around her and you have to love their indirect interactions as he talks to her thinking she can’t hear anything while she struggles to make him notice she’s right there bearing witness of everything. Yeo Jin’s aware that Tae Hyun is being chased by loan sharks and the police is just a few steps away in case Doo Chul gets caught.

The glass room was enlightened while he was checking her eyes, could it be that she noticed he was the one to prevent her from taking her own life? Yeo Jin reacts to environment stimulus and Tae Hyun notices that her reflexes have gotten quite sensitive. Nurse Hwang isn’t pleased and she unveils her superiority through a glimpse of information straight from Tae Hyun’s background she wasn’t supposed to know. She’s a key character concerning Yeo Jin’s ongoing comatose condition and she makes Tae Hyun feel like an accomplice to this crime in motion.

While they were evacuating the building Yeo Jin’s drug stopped dripping. Once she was transferred back to the restricted area and nurse Hwang left for a while she could finally talk to Tae Hyun asking him if he’s willing to let her pay off his debt. Tae Hyun’s eyes shone differently and things are about to get far more interesting!

~ Circular view.

As days pass by all these ethical dilemmas Tae Hyun has to face grow geometrically in numbers. The sense of internal conflict is there and it’s being masterfully crafted upon Joo Won’s face. The more he complies to the orders he receives the more he gets favored in order to feel indebted and eventually enchained to the new world he embraced.

It’s an ongoing situation which forces him to keep diving even deeper into this luxurious torrent he found himself in, a torrent in which lives weigh differently and the decision doesn’t lie within Tae Hyun’s hands which are getting tied more tightly as time passes by. He never imagined that becoming an integral part of Yeo Jin’s world would drastically change his life until it happened.

In a manner of speaking, Tae Hyun and Yeo Jin’s lives are so much alike if you stare at them through a very specific angle. Both of them are in some sort of a prison. Yeo Jin’s inside her glass cage where only the echo of her voice exists. Tae Hyun is inside the restricted area’s walls where his silence is a matter of life and death.

Tae Hyun values his precious sister’s life more than his own. Ever since he “signed” the contract with his presence inside the restricted area many things have changed and he has to be cautious in every aspect of his life. Cutting ties with his Yong Pal identity is essential, especially now that he will be under surveillance as he got involved in Hanshin Group’s matters.

The wolves around him grow in numbers. Chae Young already forced herself in Tae Hyun’s life to acquire more information. Do Joon will follow and more tension and pressure will arise, especially after he will start interacting more with Yeo Jin. Tae Hyun and Yeo Jin will become one another’s hammer that will break the chains tying them to their abhorrent realities.

Sometimes i wonder whether this is a hospital or a nuclear plant! Had patients been exposed to radiation nobody would care, all that matters is the clients’ well-being and the 12th floor department makes sure to keep them safe regardless of the hundreds of people being in danger in other floors.

It’s all about wealth and power, everyone else is a pawn on their violent chessboard. However, Tae Hyun is a different type of pawn, he may have sold himself to the 12th floor, but he didn’t sell out his consciousness. Soon enough he will forge waves on the seemingly tranquil surface of high society’s playground.

Yong Pal is a drama miracle or something, one could expect a strong presence during its pilot episodes, but the more episodes pass by the greater the ratings become. It didn’t only surpass the 15% barrier, it also shook the ground with a powerful 16.3%! The question always changes and this time it can only be whether it’s going to surpass 20% or not!

If the writing and acting continues doing a great job, then I hope it surpasses 20% because Yong Pal seriously deserves it.

“The sense of internal conflict is there and it’s being masterfully crafted upon Joo Won’s face.” I completely agree. From his teary eyes, to his angry eyes, bloodshot-tired eyes (most likely real because of filming! lol) He’s like Mr. Potato Head. (Thinking of Toy Story…Don’t forget your angry eyes! You’re gonna need those! LOL)

Joo Won has been upped on my best actor list. He just nails it every episode. I love the fact that he can carry nearly 5 episodes by himself without a leading actress dragging him down. This is nearly 100% his show. But wait until 5! Kim Tae Hee is doing a great job too. And they seem to have a lot of sizzle. Finally an “OTP” I can get behind! I’ll be looking forward to that review. I like your comparison to their similar “prisons.” You see just how alike Tae Hyun and Yeo Jin are in ep. 5 and they even seem to poke a little fun at that. lol.

Keep up the good reviews! I enjoy them.

His eyes do the talking, indeed! Haha, it’s been years since i last watched Toy Story! XD Mr. Potato Joo Won XD Yup, he was carrying the first 4 episodes on his back all this time and now that Kim Tae Hee has awakened it’s getting way more interesting! Love their chemistry already! They are much more alike as things point out during the 5th episode, the only thing that differentiates them is money. Thank you so much for your words and your comments! 😀
