Kwon's Thoughts

[Important Message] ~ The Art of Copy/Paste and other Dramaland Stories.

bscap1432We started this blog, dramajjang, out of love for dramas and because we didn’t want to keep our thoughts to ourselves, we wanted to share them with the rest of the fellow adventurers in the vast sea of dramas. It’s difficult finding people in real life who share a like-minded passion, so interacting with all of you beautiful people from all over the world, even though it’s through a keyboard and behind a screen, it means a whole lot. Writing an article, whether it is a recap, a review, just a few thoughts or simply anything, it takes time, especially recaps. Even though it may be tiring at times, once you finish writing a recap and you finalize it there’s a sense of fulfillment. The thing is, 12 of my recaps (from My Love Eun Dong and My Beautiful Bride to be more precise) have been copied and pasted in the exact same way my mind’s womb and my bombarding keyboard-fingers gave birth to. I am referring to, a site that hasn’t only illegally posted articles coming from dramajjang, there are reviews, recaps and other articles coming from other blogs and big sites of our community and that site doesn’t give any credit and they never asked in the first place if we wanted our articles to be posted there.

All these articles are being presented as that site’s works and it feels like the time we invested, the feels we cherished, the pleasure we received and everything we came across, before sharing these articles with all of you people, were stolen in a blink of an eye. If to some of us it may take hours to complete a recap and actually feel excited with it in the first place before sharing it, there’s someone or some people who are just a Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Publish away from having a recap, review, article or anything ready. I am sorry but i cannot give away all these recapping hours to someone else’s few minutes. He/she/they probably never read anything i wrote, they just copied and pasted and we, dramajjang, are not affiliated with them in any way, we were never asked, we never agreed and we were never aware of anything until we were informed of what’s going on with that site.

I want to write about My Love Eun Dong‘s last episode, i want to write about My Beautiful Bride‘s 9th and 10th episodes, i want to write about Oh My Ghost‘s 5th and 6th episodes, but i can’t do it, i am neither in the mood for it nor i am dreaming to see some of these recaps or reviews posted on and presented as their own material while they never were and never will be, because my thoughts are mine, because each and every article from each and every site and blog that were copied and pasted there were never zkpop‘s in the first place, they will always be their author’s and site’s works. Some blogs and sites that are in the same situation are Couch Kimchi (and i am deeply thankful for informing me in the first place), CimiArt, ThoughtsRamble, HanCinema, Dramabeans, KDramaRecaps, Enjoy Korea With Hui, Koala’s Playground, etc. They were contacted by many of us, but we never received an answer from that site. And this silence hurts, especially when you see more copied and pasted articles ever since we contacted them. Any blogger or site could be a victim in the future.

The articles that were viciously “adopted” and taken away from me appear at that site under the following titles and some of them are in that site as a whole, some others miss their arch paragraph and my thoughts part:

[Drama Recap] My Love Eun Dong: Episode 3 (they butchered my First Impressions article and kept the 2015 part of it as a recap of the 3rd episode)
[Drama Recap] My Love Eun Dong: Episode 6
[Drama Recap] My Love Eun Dong: Episode 7
[Drama Recap] My Love Eun Dong: Episode 8
My Love Eun Dong Episode 11 Recap
My Love Eun Dong Episode 12 Recap
My Love Eun Dong Episode 13 Recap
My Love Eun Dong Episode 14 Recap
My Love Eun Dong Episode 15 Recap
My Beautiful Bride Episode 5 Recap
My Beautiful Bride Episode 6 Recap
My Beautiful Bride Episode 7 Recap

Thanks a lot everyone for spending some time reading this, it sincerely means a lot.

Truthfully yours,

Kwon Sang Seung imnida (i have a friend who usually says Cha Do Hyun imnida).

It’s so sad that people do this and never spare a second thought on what it means to the bloggers who pour heart & soul, blood, sweat, & tears into posts.

It is bad form for people to steal whole articles and images even if they give any credit as people in the web field all know about search engines and duplicate content hits and problems. When I first started there was a site that compiled whole recaps with links back & credit but their site always came up first in searches even though the content was mine. If everything has been replicated in full then there is no need to even look at the original when you find the copy first.
I am sorry they did this to you & others & that it has sucked away your joy and hard work. I always enjoy reading your thoughts and recaps/reviews. Hwaiting!

    • July 22, 2015 at 7:40 pm — Reply

Apparently they don’t mind all this effort at all, it’s all about a soulless copy/paste and that’s all.
Indeed, if the duplicated article receives more hits on the web then the original author’s effort goes to hell since the duplicated one works as the devil’s advocate.
Thanks a lot for your support, it is appreciated to a point that can’t be counted. Thanks a whole lot once again! Hwaiting!

We hope you don’t mind, but we shared this article on our FB page πŸ™‚ The more people know about Zkpop’s misdeeds, the better.

I don’t mind at all! Thanks a lot for informing and for posting it! Let’s hope more people will know about this incident. I took screenshots of some of the articles they copy/pasted, i also found 2 more articles taken from me, one of them being presented as Eun Dong’s recap for the 3rd episode and there was only a small part of my First Impressions article which was covering the first 4 episodes!!!

I saw this news from Couch Kimchi yesterday and am absolutely furious and heart sick for you and the rest of the people out there being victimized by this trash site. I see one of my friends has friended that site (I’m sure unknowingly) and am PM her to unlike asap!

It’s a most unwelcome situation, it drains you. All the effort gets vanished even though it’s still there. Fighting and thanks a WHOLE lot for all the support all this time πŸ™‚

I equate it to to the time I came home late from work to sheriff’s cars, the crime lab van, and my ex and son in my driveway to find my house broken into, robbed of various valuable items, and vandalized. Another break-in resulted in the theft of all my mother, MIL, aunts, and grandmother’s jewelry (mostly costume but some antique) and rosaries (singular keepsakes from those I loved) stolen along with multiple other treasured items, including several pieces that my son had gifted to me on Mother’s day and birthdays. Now I tell him to only buy me gardenias or take me out to eat and a movie!!! There is such a sense of violation. The items themselves were of little monetary value, but a visual reminder of the time and place and person they came from. For a long time I kept thinking of other people buying them from wherever and wearing them and not knowing they were someone else’s memories. As time passed I have forgotten most of those items, and, as a result, some of the memories they came with. As you get older so much falls out when you put new stuff in!!! I hope, but don’t expect, much resolution from your predicament. I have no idea what kind of recourse is open to you. I fear there is little but to hope that we can somehow stop people from friending this site so they die on their own.

        • July 22, 2015 at 8:58 pm — Reply

Thanks a lot for sharing this, keepsakes from loved ones always keep memories alive for they are related to memories. Valuable or not in money terms, it doesn’t really matter, it’s the emotional weight that matters and it felt as if they were stealing the memories that accompanied these keepsakes. “As you get older so much falls out when you put new stuff in!!!” Especially when the dramas grow in numbers XD I don’t know what will happen, but i hope for the best, otherwise more like them will pop up and recaps will be nameless as if a ghost wrote them.

Ugh!!! This is so horrible!!! I am so sorry T___T I wish that someone would take their site down and give us small time bloggers some real recourse to being able to fight these sorts of copyright issues (seeing as none of us has the kind of clout that large corporate peeps do). *sigh* I also don’t understand why these people think that stealing is okay. There are no words.

    • July 22, 2015 at 7:29 pm — Reply

They stole from Allkpop as well, and Dramajjang contacted 6theory’s dmca dept. They must have presented them a legal takedown notice, and Zkpop complied. For us smaller blogs, filing a dmca takedown notice might be an option, too, but it does take money to do that. This is unnecessary stress! And I’m shaking my head at the arrogance of Zkpop.

      • July 22, 2015 at 7:53 pm — Reply

Yep, it was the High Society episode 13 review of allkpop which was on zkpop as a whole with exactly the same musical signs in the beginning! I sent both links to allkpop’s DMCA department of 6Theory. Now it has Dramabeans’ Hidden Identity ep 13 Recap, i guess the 6Theory team got at them and zkpop probably simply edited the article and brought another copy/paste. All of that is indeed unnecessary stress, especially a DMCA notice, if we had that money our blogs and sites would be defended spaceships!

I hope something will happen soon, i couldn’t believe what was going on until i saw it with my own eyes. I just found out that my First Impressions on the first 4 eps of Eun Dong was butchered to a small part and was presented as Eun Dong’s episode 3 recap on that site!!! Apparently we don’t have much power over these copyright issues, but we still have a voice! Thanks a lot for your thoughts and support, it is deeply appreciated!!!

It really is amazing to me how leeches like this think it’s okay to do this. Then again I shouldn’t be that surprised when I look at all the terrible things humans do to each other on this earth by murdering, bombing, annihilating each other, etc. Perhaps that is just the cynic in me, but then the idealist really hopes that the good guys will prevail.

        • August 9, 2015 at 12:45 pm — Reply

It is amazing indeed, such arrogant actions… Aye, humanity is filled with so many crimes against humanity making it a hostile world in the end. Good guys have to prevail, otherwise the end in earth’s life cycle will feel inevitable at some point.

i understand how annonying it is to have people steal your work for their own benefit. It’s like people just have no shame, no conscious at all. I think I did the right thing by taking one-month break. Unfortunately, it slowed down the momentum I was gaining, but at least, it slowed down also the people who were checking my blog to repost my translations without asking for my permission. Since they only care about what they’re looking for on your blog, they don’t bother to check your other posts and they assume the blog is dead when there’s no update for more than a week. XD XD My point is you have the right to feel the way you feel and start writing again when you feel you’re ready for it, whenever this might be.

    • July 22, 2015 at 7:55 pm — Reply

A break is always needed, but a forced break is aish! You will fasten again your momentum because i have faith in sunny lady’s sunny sun. Hahahaha, it’s not dead, it’s breathing underwater!!! Or floating in food memories ;D Thanks a sun’s weight lot sunny lady chingu!!! Your support is always more than appreciated! πŸ™‚

lol yeah it’s underwater. i guess. XD may i just be off topic-not, but those Cha Gun Woo screen captures really came handy didn’t they?

Maybe because it’s summer XD They came more than handy indeed, even if you’re not recapping a drama, screencaps can always be helpful XD

  7. July 22, 2015 at 7:58 pm — Reply

I hope they take the material down or then get thoroughly destroyed. And it’s a good idea to contact all the sites they took from, or however many possible. You can all damage them together, be it legally or through letting people know. HanCinema has contacted them too. We’re waiting for an answer, although such sites usually do not reply. Be strong and don’t stop your work, although definitely take all the time you need to feel ok about it again. We will all make sure their existence is known as a lie and theft.

    • July 22, 2015 at 8:07 pm — Reply

I hope they take the articles down from all the sites and blogs! I’ve contacted almost everyone and whomever i didn’t was already aware or informed me! I also took screencaps of the articles they took from me, they even take bandwidth with some photos! The worst part was a while ago when i found out they butchered my First Impressions article on EunDongaaaaah which was based on the first 4 eps, they cut a small part and presented it as a recap of episode 3!!! Let’s hope they answer, but probably they won’t as you said. I will probably focus on non-airing dramas, even though i had some airing ones in the making and it pains me. Thanks SO SO SO much for the support and let’s hope everything flows well as soon as possible!

      • July 22, 2015 at 10:47 pm — Reply

If you self-host it’s easier to have hotlnking disabled so no one can steal your images and eat your bandwidth. That was something quick I learned when I went to self-hosted with lots of images and people who kept linking back to them. Unfortunately, some of the safety measures you can put in place there don’t work on πŸ™

        • July 23, 2015 at 12:14 pm — Reply

Yush, self-host is kind of heaven compared to a non-premium blogging account, i will start searching in the self-hosting direction sometime soon and hope it won’t be as tough as my mind makes it to be, here the struggle is real, in self-host the struggle feels less! xP

I’m sorry this happened to you, Kwon. It’s terrible for a site to be so blatant about plagiarising other people’s hard work. I know how that feels because some years back, I had a story of my own plagiarised as well and it was so difficult trying to have it taken down from that offending site. I’m glad you highlighted the situation and hope you and everyone else who had their stuff plagiarised manage to get the articles off that site.

It’s always hard to keep what you write as just yours on the internet. It’s completely unfortunate that this has happened to you and I hope they take down what they’re copypasta’d and issue an apology to you. Some people need to remember that plagiarism isn’t just something that happens in HS or college when you write papers.

    • July 22, 2015 at 10:54 pm — Reply

I work for a website and a few times a year we realize people are stealing our content or copying all of our lists verbatim & even using the same HTML and CSS. Then begins the fun process of trying to get them to cease and desist. Being relatively small, it’s not like we can afford legal fees from DMCA complaints.

It’s becoming harder and harder with the net and people scraping digital content. Some of it can be attributed to laziness and not wanting to put in the effort, some of it has to do monetization and malware/viruses. And sometimes…I hate to say it’s due to sheer stupidity. Having majored in English and working in the English education field for several years, I am all too aware that many people don’t understand plagiarism or copyright or that what they are doing is really stealing. Makes you wonder about proper education at the lower levels as I was taught since elementary school about stealing the work of others when not using proper citations/attributions. Working in a writing center and then as an in-class tutor, I really saw how people did not understand what constituted plagiarism and would simply copy and paste from internet resources or reference books and not give any credit.

      • July 23, 2015 at 12:56 am — Reply

Granted I have no English degree, but plagiarism was one of the thing POUNDED in my head from mid/late grammar school until college. So what are teachers teaching these kids these days that don’t know that blatant copy and pasting and claiming ownership of it is WRONG? I don’t know if the system doesn’t deem it important or not anymore, but it’s something that probably needs to be brought up a lot in the classroom.

        • July 23, 2015 at 12:31 pm — Reply

It definitely has to be brought up a lot in a classroom, especially now that people live in a digital era which progresses more and more. Copying the exact same exercises from a classmate is the same as copy/pasting someone else work without giving any credit. Things only get worse in this world XD

      • July 23, 2015 at 12:22 pm — Reply

And that’s why me and other blogs or sites don’t proceed right away with a DMCA complaint, we can’t afford it :/
This issue here appears to be darker since they seem to know what they are doing, i turned into a detective last night. They find a blog/site that has already posted some recaps, they can’t make a recap post on that site that would appear as if it was posted before the original author. In that case, they take off the first paragraph and start from the second one, so it’s a “new article” lol. But then, they know that that blog or site will post future recaps! So, they make a post of that forthcoming article like this “Mask Episode 17 Recap” and since the original author hasn’t posted it yet, they have already a post there, but its body consists of the episode’s video preview! Once the site/blog and its author posts the recap 1-2-3 days later, they edit their own and it looks as if zkpop posted the article 1-2-3 days before the original author!!!!
You’re truly a commando, majoring in English, having worked on education field, working at a website, having your own site, you are strong! πŸ™‚ Yup and they wouldn’t even try to make some distinctive or even slight changes! Or at least give a single freaking credit that this part was from that book, that one from that site or something!

    • July 23, 2015 at 12:12 pm — Reply

To be honest, i didn’t expect such a thing to happen since the drama k-entertainment community is kind of specific (and by that i mean the K parameter makes it more specific, there a wide variety both in everything it offers from kdramas kpop kvariety k-anything to the audience), but even in more specific fields plagiarism and copy/paste do exist! Thanks a lot for your thoughts and support, it’s truly appreciated!!! πŸ™‚

      • July 23, 2015 at 6:00 pm — Reply

I think because it’s more specific it has a higher target or possibility to be taken. And it’s like the more work you put into something, the more likely it seems appealing to someone else.

        You’re welcome’

        • July 23, 2015 at 9:50 pm — Reply

Hadn’t thought of it this way, but it makes sense! And definitely agree with your thoughts, the more the effort the higher the possibility of your works getting “adopted” :/ Thanks a lot once again πŸ™‚

That’s terrible, and very upsetting! Have you tried contacting the website hosts that powers this den of Kpop thieves? The podcasts seem to come from feedburner anyway.

I’m no html expert or anything, but I’m looking through the page source of the website and I see this site is created through WordPress using Yoast plugins. Perhaps getting in touch with WordPress about the situation will get this site taken down. Zkpop purposely leaves no way to contact the creators because they know they are ripping off other blogs. I guess try attacking them at the source?

Wow, it’s like they have a web of over 2 million domains. It’s definitely a phishing website that just scours the internet and steals from others. I see there’s an abuse contact email and phone number, not sure if that goes to the ZKpop creators or to Whois. If enough bloggers sent complaints to that email, or calls something may be done. I’m sorry this is happening.

And they simply don’t care about replying back or getting contacted because this is not an option and they only care about making money from ads without caring about using in that way others’ authenticity of work. I’ve had a k drama peer verbatim post something I’ve said previously in a personal conversation as their own original thought on a community forum. I was stunned to say the least. I’ve seen morally flexible people simply piggy back if not blatantly appropriate story ideas, article ideas, website ideas, etc., for many many years, so I feel everyone on this situation. It’s not cool.

Woohoo, you have your own fandom medals!! *drinks some random soju as a celebratory act – wish i had some now, i have a bottle, but it’s empty πŸ˜› * That was harsh as well, even content presented in personal conversations is disheartening when it comes to the surface while being presented as someone else’s idea. “morally flexible people simply piggy back if not blatantly appropriate story ideas, article ideas, website ideas, etc” lol, loved your presentation as piggyback XD You presented it eloquently XD Thank you for one more time for the support! πŸ™‚

I am so sorry that this happened! I’d like to reblog this post to help get the word out about! I haven’t had such a terrible thing happen to me yet, but I want to help combat this with you!

    • July 23, 2015 at 2:09 am — Reply

Thanks so much, you can reblog it if you want to ^-^ I invested more on how they do their dirty business if the original author has posted the article first (they take off the first paragraph and post the rest of the article) and how during the next recaps they make it seem as if zkpop posted it first! They make an article with the recap title of the drama and the episode and at the article’s body you can find only the video of the preview as they wait for the site or blog to post their original work 1-2 days later. Once the original article gets posted they edit the already existing one in zkpop and it looks like they posted it first! Will post tomorrow a new article on this, i am off to sleep because i am totally drained! Thanks a lot once again! πŸ™‚

I can only imagine how annoying and hurtful this must be. I’ve had some of my hard work stolen from me online before and it’s extremely annoying. I’ve never had any of my written work stolen from me, but I’m sure that’s much more hurtful than what I’ve had to deal with. I hope you can find a way to get them to stop soon! I’ll make sure to spread the word about this horrible site and tell my drama loving friends to stay way from it.

On the bright side, it’s great to see people showing their support for the bloggers whose posts were plagiarized. By now I think most readers of these blogs know about this news & will avoid that other site.

WTF!!! I tried to think of a better way to start my statement but that was the nicest way to say all the curse words I have in my head at the moment. I CAN NOT even begin to wrap my mind around understanding people that do things like this. I have tried my hand at doing a recap or review and I know first hand how time consuming those posts take and I don’t have the patience for it but I commend people like you and many of those that you named for going above and beyond in allowing your readers the opportunity to experience the drama through your thoughts and feelings.

Hopefully this can be resolved by this site being taken down and/or credit being given to all that had work stolen from them. I hope the break gives you the insight to come back and continue doing what you love but I do understand the toll something like this takes. I have been through a similar ordeal. The only difference is that it didn’t happen online. It is a very stressful and painful ordeal to fight so I can only imagine how difficult a fight it would be if you tried to resolve it legally when it deals with digital content.

Keep your head up and know that many of us are standing with you. HWAITING. Bloggers and Readers Unite.

I will also reblog to get the word out.

    • July 23, 2015 at 12:49 pm — Reply

Curse words can be a vast universe in times like these!!! πŸ˜€ Indeed, it’s a time-consuming task, but then again, it has its own fun while doing it and once you’ve finished one that’s the most precious part of the day XD
Let’s hope that this whole shituation will flow well, but they posted another recap and they have another post waiting for the recap to come up in order to edit it lol I hope so too, i may try to work on the last ep of Eun Dong in order to give my Eun Dong recaps a closure and then, maybe, i will focus in non-airing dramas or reviews or whatever. I was waiting for this week to arrive after a re-exam so that i would be able to write about so many eps, but this doesn’t feel like an option, i feel drained with this whole thing going on. Filing a DMCA complaint requires money and we are just a humble blog, it’s not something we can afford at the moment :/

Infuriating news indeed. My heartfelt condolences to the numerous bloggers affected.

Since the copycat(s) doesn’t/don’t seem to read anything in the recaps, maybe you guys can insert a note about how the works belong to you and not the offending site and how that site should be boycotted in the concluding thoughts of future recaps. You know, let them strangle themselves with their ill-gotten goods.

But not in the separate thoughts section, which they have cut away before. Somewhere slightly higher up and more discreet, maybe, where readers but not indifferent plagiarizers are bound to come across it.

      • July 23, 2015 at 6:16 pm — Reply

Yeah, about the signature thing, as I was reading Kwon’s piece I thought “Keh, Oscar Wilde said it all: ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.'”, but it’s still disheartening.

Looking forward to that codes-and-parodies-loaded Eun-dong recap! It’ll give the thieves so much more work to do when they spot them.

          • July 24, 2015 at 11:18 pm

Okay, i will keep it for then and i hope the in-laws won’t be drama-oriented, not in a good manner of speaking! XD
When and IF they spot them because i am not sure if they are reading anything except for the first paragraph or something and i’m not even sure about that either! Will come up with something “interesting,” dunno if it will be amusing or whatever though πŸ˜›

Sorry if I show my ignorance as I have no idea how much work it takes to upload/post your recap once it’s written… but one method to thwart future thefts might be to post in the form of a picture with a watermark… it could be placed alongside the text as opposed to under it so as to not interfere with the legibility. A pic may be cumbersome, but they wouldn’t be able to delete it.
(I tried to insert a sample, but I couldn’t add the pic. The watermark said “zkpop stole this from dramajjang”)

        • July 24, 2015 at 3:14 am — Reply

Nah, no need to be sorry about anything! Once the whole recap is written it takes some time to put the pictures between paragraphs and then proofread it as a whole to minimize mistakes. Proofreading is the worst part of the story once you’ve finished anything else XD
A few pictures like this with the watermark you proposed would own XD If i said i didn’t love the watermark it would be a lie πŸ˜› Something like, “text part – pictures – one of them has the watermark – text – pictures – one of them has the watermark” and such, right? Or i conceived it wrongly? πŸ˜€

      • anaht
        July 24, 2015 at 7:01 pm — Reply

Actually, I was thinking that the text itself would be in photo form much like a scanned/faxed document so that it could be read easily, however, if copied, it would have to be taken in whole and someone else couldn’t edit it by deleting a paragraph or embedded watermark/message. anyway… just a thought.

        • July 24, 2015 at 11:16 pm — Reply

Ah, that’s where my mind went first, but then i changed my view and posted what you read πŸ˜› It’s an interesting opinion to say the least, but the problem is that i like what is closest to written form and it’s the “natural” writing approach of a computer which is what we’re doing right now while writing to one another πŸ˜€ But yes, even then they would come up with something, it would take them a bit more time though!

Immitation is the best form of flattering… I agree with all the friends of the blogospher.
Nontheless, even Shakespeare couldn’t handle it properly and, above everything else, couldn’t have a zen attitude whatsoever towards lazy and shameless thieves.
Besides, any copy-cat (which, I’m sure it’s not a good idea for a pet) is an awful business plan; because there’s so much more inside those brains of yours and no immitation can beat that. I know it feels horrible right now but I’m sure you’ll bounce back in no time. Summer can do all the work for you, amici…the most blue sea, a magnificent sun and endless hours on those wonderful beaches of your country.
Don’t overthink, just relax and fight them even harder. Soon the “thieves” will get tired of copying others even if that’s how they earn their living. There’s no fun in stealing other people’s ideas since only creativity satisfies human beings. I strongly believe that , Kwon Sang Seung-ssi. We’re all there for you, guys…Don’t give up on your talent, otherwise it would be a total waste! Να Ρισte καλα…I mean it from the bottom of my heart! Fighting πŸ™‚

Yup, copy-cats are nasty pets and definitely an awful business plan. I guess you’ll have more sea-baths than me this year! XD
I will try to do so haria*2-ssi, these days i was only overthinking and even though i was emotionally drained i was too energetic due to all this rage at the same time, both edges were cancelling one another and there was a tiny Kwon sitting at the corner XD I will trust in your beautiful thoughts, they are always more than appreciated πŸ™‚ Thanks so much, ΞΈΞ± ΡίμαστΡ, stammi bene amico ^-^ <3 Fighting!!! πŸ™‚
