My Unfortunate Boyfriend ~ first impression ~
I started my spring dramas with ” My Unfortunate Boyfriend “, when I read the story I wasn’t really excited about a dorky boyfriend since I’m used to the mean chaebol type but after watching ” Ho Goo’s love ” I started liking the naive lead type and his dorkiness. No Min Woo playing the main lead made my decision easier, I respect him a lot as an actor and I want to see him on something different from what he played in ” The Greatest Marriage ” so ” My Unfortunate Boyfriend ” start.
The story seems simple for now so I guess the drama will be focusing more on the characters. Yoon Tae Woon ( No Min Woo )is a pure gardener who works for the company Yoo Ji Na ( Yang Ji Sung ) gets to work for through lies. Every time she meets Yoon Tae Woon something unfortunate happens. In the same company the second intern is Hye Mi (Kwak Ji Min ) who seems to be competitive with Yoo Ji Na, since there was supposed to be one position but they got both of them to test them and keep the best. Hye Mi is from the rich family that if I’m not mistaken has something to do with the company and is close to director Hee Chul ( Yoon Hak), more like a one sided love but she wants to succeed in her work on her own.
It’s a drama that depends on the characters and all the characters are weird. Except from the characters, weird are many scenes till now but in an interesting way. Yoon Tae Woon making an announcement for his lost spider made me cry from laughter on the first episode and Yoo Ji Na’s commercial was interesting.
I think there is more to Yoon Tae Woon’s story about his past that it hasn’t been shown yet.The Chairman keeps him in the company not only because he is a skilled gardener but for something , we’ll find out in the next episodes.
Yoon Tae Woon and Yoo Ji Na are not a ship for me yet.Yoo Ji Na is a girl from the countryside who has come to Seoul to make it big. I don’t blame her but she keeps lying and manipulating people so that she can get what she wants. Her ways are not mean but she is not the pure lead we are used to.
Heechul and Hyemi I already ship. Because Hyemi didn’t seem as the typical mean rich second lead but she seemed decent and the only fake about her was her plastic surgery which is fine by me but I think the writers want to show the insecurities Hyemi had in the past and how hard she wants to work now. I got a bit disappointed in the ending of the second episode were her jealousy for Yoo Ji Na, who seems to be getting closer to director Heechul makes her healthy competition towards her not so healthy.
Many people are complaining for No Min Woo’s acting being stupid and the show being weird. I find it weird too but in a different way. I think it’s a good time for a change. Even Jung Yoon Hak is not the typical chaebol, I haven’t seen his other project and his aura is a bit strange but I want to see how he does in the future episodes. Kwak Ji Min is the first time I’m seeing her too but I think she fits as Hye Mi.
Kdrama viewers are used to the strong main lead who after being mean he becomes a sweet guy for the pure and innocent main lead and takes her under his wings, the dream of every girl. ” My Unfortunate Boyfriend ” is a bit of a rebellion to this type of dramas keeping it’s classical touch with the second leads love line, one sided love.
For me it worths to see where it’s going and not drop it from the second episode. How can people drop a kdrama from a second episode? I don’t even do that with Greek Soap Operas which trust me hurt your eyes and ears while watching them.
