bscap0003“Why does gossip appeal to doctors so much lately? He came here in an expensive car, huh?” Because gossip moves the cogwheels of the world, no matter the profession, the economical/social/educational status, etc. One might be dying nearby and another one might not care, yet once a gossip pops up he/she might struggle to find out the truth or the assumption around the gossip. Simply because people care about others more than they actually care about themselves and i never meant it in a positive way. It’s always easier and not painful at all to judge others instead of looking with bright eyes in the mirror because the reflection might blind you. And Oh Ri Jin talking to Do Hyun outside the hospital is quite a sight for the whole psychiatry department and not only!

Call me Bruce Wayne, sweetheart.

After the heartfelt introduction of Do Hyun and Ri Jin’s overwhelming approval all hell breaks loose inside the hospital since it becomes a hot topic, had it been a gossip magazine or TV channel instead of a hospital it would have already become breaking news! Ri Jin is aware of Do Hyun’s condition and she knows that he was hurt during her rescue. She’s quite disturbed with the fact that he had to take care of his wounds by himself and examines him hastily on the spot! Her concerns overflow him with questions that soon turn into excitement! She’s quite excited with his overall attitude which breathes a super hero’s air! And at this point she refers to him as Batman, the nighttime guardian of Gotham City. At this point, i have to admit that i feel humbly proud of myself after my arch statement on twitter that later on found its way in my first impressions article!

MBC seems to be suffering from the Batman/Alfred syndrome lately that made its shy appearance on Mr. Back with Go Bong and Gyung Bae. This time it’s more apparent, even during the first two episodes one can notice that Do Hyun’s childhood background is traumatic and secretary Ahn Gook who’s by his side tries to help him hide the real nature of his seven personalities and that’s why they make Do Hyun’s apartment something like his own secret base where he can keep under control his other selves. South Korean dramas lately have become a more socialized modern equivalent of Gotham City with every main male lead serving his duty as a little piece of Bruce Wayne’s heritage. The main idea’s there, the details differ according to the scenario’s demands. And this time the hero’s greatest enemy is his own self, well, the rest six popping up every now and then, especially Se Gi who’s a hero and a villain at the same time, depending on the circumstances.

bscap0020And the battlefield of gossip, from an amorphous kindergarten maze and a circular circus at the revolving door of the hospital, becomes personal! Ri Jin wants Do Hyun to exterminate all the assumptions around them so that she’ll be able to work in peace. Her reputation has fallen to zero, from booking men to getting easily dumped, among other rumors! And for that, to surpass Se Gi’s involvement in the overall matter, she will need Do Hyun’s help! He has to talk face to face to each one of the hospital’s gossip flagships! Referring to Oh Ri Jin as “my Ri Jin” doesn’t quite help, his thoughts don’t help either! Why did she assign him this mission of vital importance? To make things even worse? His thoughts are not consistent and he doesn’t seem to convince doctor Kang, nurse Mi Ro or doctor Sun Jo whose faces are highly representative of the people that are qualified in the aspects of “social talking and interacting”! Do Hyun gets informed beforehand according to their gossip status and specificity in order to handle them easily, but at this point it seems that all she needed was Se Gi, one second for each one of them would be enough to put an end to this awkward situation. One thing is for certain, he might not actually have helped Ri Jin, but a parade of humorous awkwardness, epic facial expressions and brave doses of laughter passed before our eyes for a welcome amount of time. Daebak! Ri Jin’s erupting laughter when things don’t go as planned or when she feels embarrassed is hilarious, but also Do Hyun’s friendly and serious-seeming face while trying to repair the unrepairable! Doctor Park though is a special occasion. He’s bullying his juniors, but as Do Hyun appears he tries to escape in fear! It was Se Gi’s wrongdoing grabbing him by the neck and Do Hyun’s overly apologetic and sincere mode takes charge of the situation, he asks for forgiveness on his knees. Unable to reveal the whole truth he puts the blame on the alcohol factor. To doctor Park’s surprise, while he was expecting to get beaten up once again, everything flows more than normally!

bscap0077Ki Joon’s secretary, or plebeian to be more precise according to the way he treats him, hasn’t searched all the hospitals and the little emperor is mad! Although his secretary has some pleasing information for his master’s ears. He found out that there’s a scandal going on between psychiatrist Oh Ri Jin and Do Hyun and pretty much everyone at the hospital knows about it. The grandeur of gossip! Also, Secretary Ahn’s meetings with doctor Ho Pil come to the surface as well. Ki Joon’s enigmatic pleasure will definitely make Do Hyun have a hard time!

bscap0087To my surprise, everything went well! Even though Do Hyun’s try didn’t seem quite helpful, everything went according to plan and Ri Jin’s work life is going to flow well, according to that subject because Ki Joon and Se Gi are lurking in the real and shady world respectively. Talking to them in a like-minded civilized yet greasy-friendly way must have pleased their ego big time. I personally wasn’t convinced, but i had a great time and since Ri Jin’s colleagues were convinced i’m more than fine with it! It’s a win-win audience-storyline situation you don’t expect, but it happens anyway! Ri Jin’s more than thankful towards Do Hyun and their conversation begins, she’s about to answer to his questions, but the more the discussion goes on the more things Do Hyun realizes and the truth is frightening. Everything he never wanted to believe in feels real and Se Gi’s glass reflection proves once again the expanded intelligence of Se Gi. He’s not just a parasitic equivalent of Do Hyun, he’s someone strong enough to become the host of this body if everything goes according to plan. Even when he’s not present, he witnesses what’s happening in the surface, he breathes underneath Do Hyun’s skin waiting for the right moment. He feeds upon his negative feelings and when Do Hyun’s in fear or feels threatened then it’s the right time to strike back. The other personalities feel underdeveloped and they are supporting roles in drama terms. Se Gi is the second lead trying to become first lead and he’s moving cautiously, step by step and with every step he makes he grows stronger. The clouds disappear and the sun starts shining upon the truth, it’s not Chae Yeon who’s Se Gi’s first love, it’s Oh Ri Jin. They must have met some time in the past, that’s what the signs indicate, even though Ri Jin insists that they met at the club for the first time. It could have been during one of Ho Pil’s sessions in the past that Se Gi might had noticed her since Ho Pil has met all of his personalities. Ri Jin might not had seen him in the past, but Se Gi’s sharp eye could have thought otherwise. Ri Jin’s life must be secured, being a psychiatrist that knows Do Hyun’s condition and at the same time being Se Gi’s first love are the two opposites that conflict Se Gi’s world. And we all know what a tragic fate could lie ahead for both of them. Especially at times when Se Gi can impersonate Do Hyun, like he did in the beginning of his first meeting with Ho Pil after such a long time, Ho Pil didn’t notice until Se Gi let him realize it. As time passes by Se Gi’s growing stronger and Do Hyun wants Ri Jin to stay away from him and insists on the caution measures she should be aware of, the same ones he mentioned to Chae Yeon. Once a crisis in the form of a headache starts making its presence Ri Jin goes to bring some medication, by the time she returns Do Hyun’s nowhere to be found. Se Gi’s reflection appearance was representative of his overambitious ego and it’s palpable proof of his current strength. This time he appears like an 80s US glam/sleaze hard rock revival band member with the ornate coat and the guyliner! Mötley Crüe/Hanoi Rocks should start considering side-projects with Se Gi as the front man!

bscap0161Ri Jin’s worried about Do Hyun’s condition and shortly after she calls him. Leaving all of a sudden was part of his caring attitude towards her just in case Se Gi or anyone else would pop up all of a sudden. She tries to help him, first as a doctor, access denied, then as a friend, access denied. She’s neither his doctor nor his friend, he doesn’t need friends, he doesn’t make friends. And in fact, it’s true, he doesn’t want to relate to people around him and grow closer to them, his family and Chae Yeon are more than enough to worry about, more people around him means that more people could get hurt in the future by Se Gi or another personality. The truth is he needs friends, he must have always craved for them, but he was pretty much aware that he shouldn’t get closer to people neither in a friendly manner nor to a closer relationship with a girl when he was younger or a woman at this point of his life. The void inside him is vast, it’s devoid of normal and essential treasures in one’s life such as friends and a relationship. Whereas at the same time he hides his condition from his family and the only people he can rely upon are Ho Pil and Ahn Gook. As for himself, you know how complicated things are. Ri Jin’s reactions when Do Hyun ended all of a sudden their phone call and the way she spits out the sentences one after the other in high speed shows how pissed off she is! Because she cares, a bit more than she’d ever expect, she has yet to coherently realize it. Do Hyun’s worried about Se Gi’s reflection.

bscap0180Blackout. Candy clouds and a caramel horizon, a little girl pops up out of nowhere, but she’s not alone! She’s jumping along with a boy on a trampoline and they’re blissful! The boy’s face remains hidden but we all know who he could be, all of a sudden the boy disappears and Do Hyun’s body takes his place. He wants her to play with him, just like Se Gi said at Ri Jin. And… it was a nightmare after all. The girl was Ri Jin’s younger self and the man that took the little boy’s place was Se Gi calling her to play with him. Once she wakes up she finds Ri On standing by her side. Guess what, she screams! And he screams too in fear to Ri Jin’s reaction! Keep screaming, Ri Jin! Hysteria never felt so beautiful before! But Ri On doesn’t agree since he gets beaten from Ri Jin to find out that she’s back to reality and it was all a bad dream.

bscap0181bscap0182 bscap0183bscap0185

bscap0197Soon Young, Ri Jin’s magnificent mother, is talking to her daughter on the phone, she’s worried because she started working so early instead of receiving treatment and/or getting some rest. But Ri Jin’s in safe hands, Ri On’s by her side and the conversation doesn’t last long and she returns to her husband who’s about to buy bok choy! She doesn’t want to make it sad, poor bok choy! And everything seems to be flowing well and in a positive vein, until the vendor starts talking. And he talks way too much, he stretched the overall subject to the point it became way annoying. I mean, just sell what you have to and take your mouth on your way back home! The subject is Ri Jin and Ri On who don’t look so much alike and how could they be twins, then the subject becomes who do the two children take after and he keeps ranting and ranting until the mother explodes. Soon Young ahjumma’s arguments are valid, but the emotional frustration is immense. Daddy Oh tries to calm her down and ease her tension, even if his stare betrays his own angst. Something’s fishy between Ri Jin, Ri On and their parents, we’ll eventually find out in the future. Yet, this doesn’t do justice to the vendor’s words, sell your products if you want money, don’t offer for free your idiotic thoughts; if you want to sell your products and get money. It’s the first distressing scene in which the Oh family’s getting involved and the good thing is that their children were absent.

bscap0230Ri On and Ri Jin try to find a proper explanation to her nightmare in which she was at the age of seven and wonders whether they had a trampoline or not and if the boy whose face she couldn’t see was Ri On or not. At the same time, her colleagues instead of taking care of their patients they keep up with the nonsense a.k.a. gossip and they come up with the assumption that Ri Jin is a femme fatale, a homo hystericus maybe, but a femme fatale? Really? And that’s what happens when they don’t pay attention to their patients and i’m glad about it, Sook Hee appears and offers for free her insightful thoughts that relate to the previous event, that something’s fishy within the Oh family when it comes to the children! By the time they notice her she tries to escape once again, but they manage to catch her. Take your hands off the clairvoyant psychiatrist Sook Hee! She’s much better than all of you, instead of chasing her you should be learning a few things from her and why not, hire her! Then she’ll be at the hospital all the time, when she won’t be dancing of course! Seul Gi is an incurable love.

bscap0241Back to the double-Oh conversation! Ri On wants to find out who the man in her dream was, but she won’t tell him! Well, eventually she tells him and he refers to her as a cult maniac with a hidden reference to 80s horror movies since it seems horrifying to Ri On’s eyes! Could it be an erotic dream? Nay! He asks her if she’s confident enough to hear the truth from the experienced lips of a renowned undercover writer! Are you serious? Don’t you know what will happen if she won’t like the answer? She might be confident enough to hear it, but she won’t tolerate it at all! He explains phrase by phrase Se Gi’s words in her dream and when the “play with me” part appears with the hotel reference Ri On feels Ri Jin’s wrath! I could see it coming ever since Ri On asked her in the first place whether they’ll go through this thought procedure or not! And the story continues at the parking lot where Ri On refers to Do Hyun as a conman and the more he goes on ranting the more he pushes his luck and there it is, Ri Jin’s hand grabs his neck! He has to leave for his own safety, but before he disembarks from the port of violence he does the peace sign along with the eye-blinking to ease the tension! As he’s leaving behind Ri Jin he can’t help it but stare at her through the side-mirror of the car and his thoughts prove that he knows much more than Ri Jin would expect, but he chose to remain silent for the time being, something he’s sorry about towards his sister. Although he gave her a few hints a bit earlier about the trampoline and a neighbor who gave it to them. I don’t know whether it is related to the past memories or it’s just a story Ri On made by himself to make her forget about it, one thing is for sure, Ri On cares a lot about his sister, maybe a bit more than just a brother. Wanting her to stop digging their childhood past while at the same time he wants her to stop getting involved with Do Hyun unleashes a sense of mystery. Not only about what Ri On knows, but also about the overall story as well since various events seem to relate one to another. We have yet to find out portions of truth as the drama goes on.

bscap0283Shortly after Ri Jin’s phone is ringing, it’s Secretary Ahn. Do Hyun has vanished and the last person to had seen him was Ri Jin at the hospital, ever since he’s nowhere to be found. By the time the phone call ends, Ahn Gook notices Ki Joon in the office. He can’t know how much he had the chance to overhear from the discussion, he comes up with an excuse and bscap0284throws it out of his mouth anyway, it’s the only thing he can do. Ki Joon’s investigative stare is threatening, but… why is he worried about him? Could it be that he doesn’t necessarily want to enter this fight, but he’s forced to do so due to his father? And it’s his father he meets right away and for sure it’s going to be a silent battle without firing a single bullet and Ki Joon has something in mind. Had there been bullets, there would be a muffler as well to silence the bloodshed. Young Pyo shouldn’t be talking about traitors while he’s plotting behind everyone’s back, although the overall family’s story becomes more complicated as time passes by, hope that explanations will start appearing as soon as possible because questions gather up at high pace! Like father like son, they say, and in this situation it feels true, Young Pyo made his own son just like himself, but i’m eager to find out about the events that ceased his father’s presidential course at the company and made Young Pyo hold a grudge for about twenty years.

bscap0316Ri Jin’s having a discussion with doctor Ho Pil and lets him know about the things she noticed during the last time she saw him. Her observations lead towards one direction, co-consciousness! Things are getting more complicated! There must have been a crucial event that triggered this new symptom alongside the omnipresent fight for the ownership of Do Hyun’s body and dominance over the other personalities, but also control over Do Hyun’s thoughts and/or actions. Co-consciousness is when Do Hyun is at the surface and one of the multiple personalities makes its appearance, like Se Gi earlier while he was talking to Ri Jin. Ho Pil doesn’t consider it necessarily that bad since it could be helpful in the end. He refers to Do Hyun’s memory loss i presume, the other personalities, especially Se Gi, are pretty much aware of the reasons they emerged from Do Hyun’s subconscious mind back in the days. Co-existing with them in a co-consciousness state of mind and reality could probably trigger a multifaceted interaction that would bring back sparse memories or even everything he willingly erased to get rid of this burden. Ri Jin is worried about him, she can’t reach him on the phone and leaves him a message to encourage him and let him know that he should never lose his consciousness, no matter what.

Se Gi troll face: Problem, Do Hyun?

bscap0345And… Do Hyun regains consciousness. A bear that was lying in his arms gets thrown away, around him lie forlorn memories among horrid flashbacks of a painful childhood era. Broken dolls, scattered pieces, beheaded stuffed animals and a robot that viciously approaches him. The threatening figure trying to hit him is also present, always in the shadows. He’s back in the same room where horror inflicted traumas upon his fragile childhood soul and… nowadays it’s the house’s cellar. He witnesses the Nana writing on the floor and by the time he gets out of there he overhears a discussion between the three ahjummas of the house, his mother, his aunt and his grandmother. A pleasant company dare i say; not. Ja Kyung informs Tae Im of Hwa Ran’s behavior at the golf course, but she refers to the incident the way she wants to. As soon as Hwa Ran takes charge of the situation and presents her own perspective, Ja Kyung continues her indirect attack towards her face by referring to her in third person as she’s talking to Tae Im. The weather forecast predicts it will be partially rainy on specific spots of the house. And Hwa Ran unleashes her wine upon Ja Kyung in splendor and grandeur! George Lucas’ Star Wars is alien poop compared to the Ahjumma Wars. Tae Im demands that Hwa Ran and Do Hyun should leave immediately from the house, although Hwa Ran has her own hidden cards, various secrets that are better left buried. The storyline of the family becomes quite complicated and if some explanations don’t pop up i’m afraid the route will start losing its pace concerning that matter. Mystery once embedded with more mystery and even more in the process, it becomes either an unsolved enigma or a partially making some sense nonsense. Open up the goddamn Pandora’s box even if countless souls will have to get hurt! Before things get awry!

Gun bae!

bscap0405Once Hwa Ran starts leaving she witnesses Do Hyun. He takes her with him out of the house and demands some explanations about the previous discussion and the secrets of the past. As expected, he doesn’t receive any convincing answers that would shed some light in the mist of complex family matters. It would be helpful for him to hear portions of truth from the bscap0406past, but for now it’s… Hwa Ran’s strategy to keep both of them safe in this threat for life family. He returns back to his car and by the time he opens up his mobile phone he witnesses all these missed calls. Once he listens to Ri Jin’s voice message various memories of his dialogues and interactions with her overflow his mind. In the meantime, Chae Yeon’s looking for him, but he won’t answer his phone. Shortly after Ki Joon arrives at the restaurant where she is. He was late and a civilized territorial “fight” about good manners takes place among “punchlines” and “meaningful” grimaces and stares. Soon enough Do Hyun becomes the main subject and once Ki Joon mentions that he’s dating a young doctor Chae Yeon’s face changes colors! Her once cool attitude towards Do Hyun’s crush on her gets smashed to the ground by Ki Joon’s news. Trying to act as if she doesn’t care doesn’t work and the fact that she got all the information required to find Oh Ri Jin proves it.

bscap0442At last, Secratery Ahn can reach Do Hyun on the phone! Do Hyun informs him that everything’s fine and that he didn’t get into much trouble, although i doubt he recalls anything. Absence of memory is a big issue! Once Ahn Gook asks him whether he contacted Ri Jin or not, because she was worried about him, he avoids to answer, but let’s him know that bscap0447things have become quite dangerous. His multiple personality disorder steadily transmutes itself into something more complex and ravenous for his own health. He was missing for at least one day, what was going on during his absence? And if Nana came to the surface, what happened? He’s talking on the phone with doctor Ho Pil and informs him of the new variables of his condition, a new personality was probably born or came to the surface for the first time, the personality of a little child. His twofold question leaves no air for a healthy answer to breathe, is he becoming a monster or he’s going crazy? In the meantime the first scene of Kill Me, Heal Me, even if it was apparent from a moment and on, becomes perfectly clear. It’s Ri On’s personal investigation concerning Do Hyun and his family. Don’t look at us this way, Ri On, tell us everything you know!

 bscap0458bscap0459 bscap0461bscap0462 bscap0463 bscap0464bscap0466bscap0467bscap0465bscap0469

bscap0470Do Hyun’s staring at the mirror. Inside the mirror the reflection has a life of its own, it’s Se Gi. Do Hyun doesn’t want to believe it, he wants to believe it’s an illusion, a sickening mind trick. Se Gi’s words become violent, he strikes him right where he hurts the most, in his absence of memory and the traumatic past he left behind in order to keep on living. Se Gi’s aware of the past, he pretty much knows everything, he’s the one that had to deal with all his pain and fears while Do Hyun was trying to forget. It’s the alter-ego he forged in order to relieve himself from pain, but while he was learning to live again, Se Gi was in immense pain. And he survived everything that would probably put an end to Do Hyun’s life. Automatically, it’s something that makes him stronger and enlarges his ego. His words make Do Hyun’s world crumble. He loses his temper and a punch in the mirror is unavoidable. I don’t know how, somehow, at the moment of the impact and the fact that Do Hyun bled on the mirror they switched places. Se Gi took charge of Do Hyun’s body and Do Hyun became the reflection in the mirror. The shattered idol behind the crack depicts perfectly the smashed reality of Do Hyun and the multiple pieces he’s broken into. Se Gi leaves like a gentleman, as for Do Hyun, he could write a book, “My Life behind the Mirror” or something. Things are not flowing well, but things just got more interesting!

bscap0472bscap0474 bscap0475bscap0473 bscap0477bscap0476bscap0479bscap0478bscap0480bscap0481bscap0482bscap0484bscap0485bscap0486bscap0487bscap0488bscap0489bscap0490bscap0491bscap0492

bscap0493Do Hyun lies inside his prison of mirrors. Ri Jin thinks of changing Se Gi’s contact information to the name of the number’s rightful owner, Do Hyun and that’s what she does. Shortly after a message appears. It’s Do Hyun asking to meet her at the entrance of the hospital. She rushes to meet him and excited as she is she overwhelms the apparent differences, for a bscap0495second. Bon Jovi’s waiting for her, i mean Se Gi! He forces her to follow him, what does he want to confirm? Two things are for sure, Se Gi states that he doesn’t have much time so he has to go faster and faster. The second part derives from the first one, Ri Jin’s screaming because she’s scared to death! She was born for the opera house; not! Questions, questions, where are they going? Could it have something to do with Nana, the child that Se Gi found first? Or could he referring to the real child Do Hyun would be had he lived with his memories, something Se Gi did on his behalf? What’s Ri Jin’s connection to Nana and most importantly, what’s her connection to Do Hyun, or Se Gi, in past events? Does it have something to do with the trampoline incident and the face of the boy Ri Jin could not see? There’s definitely a connection between Nana, Ri Jin and Do Hyun/Se Gi. I don’t think it was a random timing when Do Hyun lost consciousness and Ri Jin dreamed of her younger self and the boy. I hope the chasm between present and past won’t broaden even more. Do Hyun’s family past, separately from Do Hyun’s past itself which is already overburdened, requires lots of information! Oh family’s past holds mysteries as well. Too many questions seeking the answers. Things will get too mixed up if they won’t get depicted masterfully. I’m loving this drama and i don’t want anything to ruin it! Although i might need a few multiple personalities to do the review/recap combo for me!
